Another new permit was just filed for work to be done in Magic Kingdom! We are always on the lookout for Disney news, and it seems that even more work is planned for the area near the Haunted Mansion.

A new permit was filed in Magic Kingdom!

While Magic Kingdom is home to LOTS of construction walls right now for Piston Peak National Park and the refurbishment of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, we were still intrigued by this new permit filed by Walt Disney Imagineering. 

The address on the Notice of Commencement (1455 Magic Kingdom Drive, Bay Lake, FL 32830) is the address for Keel Boat Landing in Magic Kingdom. Keel Boat Landing is the building in front of the Haunted Mansion entrance. While there are quite a few construction walls up in this area, Keel Boat Landing is usually used as an extended queue for Haunted Mansion. Prior to that, it was the entrance to the “Mike Fink Keel Boats” attraction in Magic Kingdom, inspired by the film, Davy Crockett and the River Pirates.

The permit was filed for “General Construction,” which doesn’t give us much insight into what might be happening in this area. Work on the area will be done by MLC Theming Inc. MLC Theming Inc is a creative, specialty construction company that specializes in “scenic painting and aging of structures, fabricating facades, carving rock work, and more.”

We have seen MLC Theming Inc listed on many Disney permits in the past, so it is not surprising to see them. Recently, MLC Theming Inc was also listed as the contractor on a permit filed just a few days ago for work at the Haunted Mansion. This new permit is near the last permit, so we will be interested to see if any visible changes happen at Haunted Mansion or Keel Boat Landing in the coming months!

There is LOTS of construction happening in the area around Keel Boat Landing, too. What used to be the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island has now been permanently closed to make way for Piston Peak National Park. This will be a Cars-themed expansion featuring two brand-new attractions. Beyond Big Thunder Mountain, Disney is also working on what will eventually be a new Villains land.
