BIG changes are on the way for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland!
On April 29th, Disney is expanding the timeline for Galaxy’s Edge to include more Star Wars eras that will unlock the timeline in the biggest way yet. Expect to see new characters, updated stores and merchandise, and even updated music! We’ve got all the details you need to know about, so let’s get into it.
Disney has announced that on April 29th, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is changing in a MAJOR way, ushering in a “new point in the Star Wars saga like never before.” They’re rolling back the timeline several decades to include characters and storylines from The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, The Mandalorian, and Ahsoka. Here’s everything we know!
These updates will mean that we’ll get to experience the Galactic Civil War and New Republic, along with the Age of the Resistance and the First Order.
Character Updates
Darth Vader’s search for Luke Skywalker will bring him to Batuu, joined by Imperial Stormtroopers, of course. Keep an eye out for them as they seek the elusive Jedi!
Leia Organa and Han Solo will be reunited with Luke Skywalker and Chewbacca in Batuu as well. You can expect to see Leia near the Millennium Falcon, recruiting travelers and locals to help keep Luke safe. Luke will roam the outpost in his quest for knowledge of the Force and artifacts related to lightsaber building, kyber crystals, and more.
Han Solo will also be spotted hanging out near his iconic ship as he’s tempted by Oga’s Cantina. Ahsoka Tano, plus The Mandalorian and Grogu, can be spotted near the marketplace.
Catch R2-D2 continuing to roll through the land near Droid Depot and the garage, and Rey can be found around the Resistance Camp.
In addition, the Disney Visa meet-and-greet that was formerly home to Darth Vader will now be home to Kylo Ren!
Music Updates
Batuu will start to sound a bit different, too. The addition of beloved scores from the iconic composer John Williams will make its way to Galaxy’s Edge. The “Main Title” and “Force Theme” will beckon you to a galaxy far, far away. As you wander through the land, you’ll hear motifs from other classic tracks, including “Han Solo and the Princess,” “The Desert and the Robot Auction,” “The Emperor,” and more.
And of course, the lively tune “Cantina Band” will be heard from within Oga’s Cantina. In the era of the Galactic Civil War, proprietor Oga Garra only recently opened this watering hole, which is already becoming a popular spot for intergalactic travelers.
Store Updates
As the timelines and storylines blend, you might notice some updates to shops throughout Galaxy’s Edge. First Order Cargo will become Black Spire Surplus, a military salvage operation with artifacts from across the history of the galaxy, including Imperial and Rebel items from the Galactic Civil War.
Dok Ondar’s Den of Antiquities will display a different array of one-of-a-kind items from its past, changing with the times.
And, an earlier generation of the Mubo family will now be operating Droid Depot, where you’ll be able to find prototypes of the BB-style droids. You might even catch Luke Skywalker meeting with Savi in his search for information on lightsabers and the Force at Savi’s Workshop.
You can expect to still enjoy the same rides and food you’ve been enjoying at Galaxy’s Edge, along with the projection show “Shadows of Memory: A Skywalker Saga.” On select evenings, “Fire of the Rising Moons” will also continue.
Ahead of these changes, a brand-new comic will be released on April 22nd. Titled Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge — Echoes of the Empire, it will blend the storylines coming to the land.
As of now, these changes are only slated for Disneyland’s version of Galaxy’s Edge, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for any updates at Disney’s Hollywood Studios as well.
We can’t wait to check out these changes, and you know we’ll be bringing you a first look once April 29th rolls around. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more!

while I agree with this 100% it is kind of hard to pull off because Cari Fisher, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill ARE the characters. It’s so in grained in everyone and knowing it’s not them walking around will make it feel less real.
Unfortunately, none of this interests me at all. I would not blink an eye if the took it all down and record the loss along with the Star Wars Hotel. Everything Star Wars is getting old.
They need to do then same thing at WDW.
WOOHOO!! REAL Star Wars!!
