Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin just hit a new phase of refurbishment.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has been closed for refurbishment for a while (and we’ve even had a sneak peek at the new ride vehicles and blasters coming to the attraction when it’s finished), but now there’s a visible sign of progress inside Magic Kingdom. Construction walls have gone up around the ride, giving us a better sense that the end of the work could be completed sooner than we expected!
If you’ve been walking through Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom recently and felt like something looked a little more…boxed in than usual, you’re not imagining things. Construction walls have officially gone up around Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, marking a visible new phase in the attraction’s ongoing refurbishment.

Construction walls
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has been closed for a bit now as Disney works behind the scenes on updates to the ride, and while we’ve known it’s slated to reopen sometime later this year, this is the first major sign of changes you can actually see in the park. The walls now surround sections of the attraction’s exterior, signaling that work is actively underway and progressing beyond just behind-the-scenes maintenance.

For those following the construction (hello, that’s us!), this update is especially noteworthy. Space Ranger Spin is a Tomorrowland staple — a ride many guests grew up riding (and competing on, as they hoped to be recruited) — and it’s one of those attractions that quietly sees a lot of traffic day in and day out. Over the years, however, concerns have been raised about ride targets, blasters, and overall show quality, making this refurbishment highly anticipated by many who hope for smoother gameplay and refreshed effects.

While Disney hasn’t shared specific details about what’s being updated outside, the presence of construction walls usually indicates more involved work, whether that’s addressing exterior elements, queue areas, or access points connected to the attraction. It also suggests Disney is moving closer to the finish line, even if an exact reopening date hasn’t been announced yet.

If you’re planning a visit to the Magic Kingdom in the coming weeks, this is a good reminder to plan accordingly. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will remain unavailable for now, and the construction walls may slightly alter the flow of foot traffic through Tomorrowland. That said, Tomorrowland still has plenty to offer, and seeing active progress on a beloved attraction can be reassuring for fans eager to blast Zurg again soon.

We’ll be keeping watch
While we’re still waiting on an official reopening date, this update is a positive sign that Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is on track to return soon — right now, Disney has shared that spring 2026 is when we can expect to see a new version of this ride! Until then, Space Rangers will just have to keep their laser fingers warmed up, because when the doors reopen, it’ll be time to aim for Galactic Hero once again.
We’ll be updating you on every step of its progress and will be bringing you along with us on its reopening day! Be sure to stay tuned with us right here at DFB so you don’t miss a thing.
