Disney World is no stranger to trends!

They embrace fun food trends, and Cast Members have loved some of the more silly trends like the viral Tower of Terror photopass moment. Some online trends might even get you into trouble in the parks, so you have to be careful. Disney World even falls victim to a good viral TikTok every now and then, and this new one has us wondering just when this new popular trend will pop up in the theme parks.
If you’re chronically online like we are, you’ve heard of Dubai chocolate or any Ube-flavored snack. It can feel like everyone is munching on these snacks, and even if you’ve never tried it, you find yourself suddenly craving Dubai chocolate. It happens to the best of us. We don’t even know what it tastes like, but based on videos, you just KNOW it has to be good. (Even if sometimes it’s not.)

Iced Dubai Chocolate Matcha
Well, a New Year has arrived, and so has a new up-and-coming trend. Despite it being nearly 100 years old, Shirley Temples are getting their moment right now as the first food trend of 2026! The famous drink, which is typically a light soda (typically Sprite) with grenadine syrup and a maraschino cherry in it, was created for the actress Shirley Temple when she was a child in the mid-1930s, but now, it’s having its moment for a totally different reason. According to GMA, the Shirley Temple is THE drink for Dry January.

Shirley Temple
If you don’t know, Dry January rolls around each year as people work on New Year’s Resolutions, and it’s when you just take a break from drinking alcohol. Many people like to substitute those adult beverages with fun mocktails or sodas so they can still have a fancy drink without the calories or negative health effects. (Each person’s reason is different!)

No Gamma Burst Cocktails for now!
The current trend for Dry January has become a search for classic and nostalgic flavors, hence the rise in popularity of this classic drink, which was one of the original mocktails. This drink was one of our favorite ways of getting a “fancy” drink as a kid, so it makes total sense that people find comfort and joy in them! The genuinely iconic drink has recently inspired two “high fiber beverage brands”, Olipop and Poppi, to create their own version of the drink.

As we’re seeing this drink appear more through different brands, it’s made us wonder if Disney World will get in on the fun! Now, you can already get Shirley Temples in Disney World, and we have many, many times. What we are really curious to see is if Disney puts their own spin on the classic drink. There’s already kind of some Shirley Temple history in Hollywood Studios, if you can believe it.

A Shirley Temple from the Brown Derby
If you didn’t know, the drink’s history is somewhat debated, but one restaurant that claims to be the originator of the drink is the original Brown Derby Restaurant, which has been replicated in Disney’s Hollywood Studios! The story goes that Shirley Temple was out with her parents and wanted a fun drink like the adults had, and BOOM, the restaurant created the drink for her then and there. We’ve even had Cast Members share this story with us, so they definitely claim it, although a few other restaurants say the same.

Inside the Brown Derby!
We could see Disney doing a fun twist on a milkshake, beverage, or even a coffee (imagine the cherry cold foam)! Sometimes it takes Disney a few weeks to join in on something going viral, but we would personally love to see their twist on a classic. We will be sure to keep our eyes peeled for any new additions around the parks, so be sure to keep following DisneyFoodBlog for more!
