A BUNCH of new food just dropped at Disneyland Resort, and of course, we had to check out some of the new items. We are the Disney Food Blog after all; if there is food involved at Disney, we will be there! Disneyland Resort is still celebrating its 70th Anniversary, and some new treats are coming to mark the occasion. Plus, Disney just added some extra new food and drink items, because why not?
Most of the new treats are available as of January 8th, although the new menu items at Flo’s V8 Cafe won’t be available until January 20th (don’t worry, we will be back to give you a full review of those new items, too!). Disney released a foodie guide earlier this month detailing the 91 NEW items coming to Disneyland. We stopped by Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure to try some of the new treats, so you know which ones are must-gets and which ones you should skip.
Disneyland Park
Pink Milk ($8.99) from Milk Stand
This is a plant-based rice milk blend with sweet and fruity characteristics. We had to start with this one, because we were SO excited for it! It has been a long debate whether Blue or Green Milk is better, and now there is a third contender: Pink Milk! The Cast Member told us it was a strawberry and banana flavor, but the app says sweet and fruity.
We couldn’t really make out any individual fruit flavors, and we honestly thought it mostly tasted like bubble gum. It has that artificial sweetness to it. We thought it was sweet and refreshing, and worth trying if you are a fan of the other milk drinks.
Peanut Butter Brownie Slice ($7.99) from Jolly Holiday Bakery
This is a brownie slice topped with peanut butter mousse, melted peanut butter, and chocolate. We had super high hopes going into this treat. Chocolate and peanut butter are a winning combination in our book, and we are happy to say that this treat delivered. It was served chilled and had a denser texture. Not like this is too dense to eat, but more of a fudgy consistency versus a cake consistency for the brownie.
We loved the rich chocolate flavor of this brownie, and it paired well with the peanut butter mousse, which had a cool, creamy texture. If you love chocolate and peanut butter together, we think you should add this treat to your list.
Breakfast Fantasyland Faire Fold ($12.99) from Red Rose Taverne
This is a flour tortilla filled with cheese, hash brown, egg, bacon, sausage, and creamy aioli. It is only served during breakfast, so make sure you head over early if you want to snag it! This is a delicious pocket full of yumminess. We were impressed by how filling it was and loved the combination of flavors.
The creamy aioli had a bit of a kick and reminded us of Thousand Island dressing. It wasn’t overly spicy, but be prepared for a bit of heat to creep up in the end. The hash brown was crunchy, the bacon was crisp, the sausage was juicy, and the eggs were fluffy. All of this was topped with a gooey cheese! This is an item we would definitely get again.
Gaston Burger ($18.29) from Red Rose Taverne
This burger is LOADED with pastrami; we are pretty sure we had more pastrami than beef patty. The pastrami was smoky and salty, with a great beef flavor. Unfortunately, the beef patty was on the dry side. We thought the sauteed onion and peppers added some great sweet and savory flavor.
We were hoping for a bit of kick from the pepperoncino, but there wasn’t much spice at all. The burger also had some pickles and a Thousand Island sauce on the bottom. It is a generous portion, and we really enjoyed all of the flavors.
Black Cherry Taverne Cold Brew ($6.79) from Red Rose Taverne
This is a chocolate cold brew with a black cherry topper. This cold brew was just okay, and we think there are lots of better options. We didn’t get much chocolate flavor from the cold brew, and the black cherry flavor in the topper wasn’t very strong either.
When you just taste the topper by itself, you do get a sweet dark cherry flavor, but it gets a bit lost when you combine it with the cold brew. Not awful, and if you are looking for a cold brew, this could be a possibility, but if you are looking for more flavor, we wouldn’t recommend this one.
Chocolate Croissant Cookie ($6.79) from Maurice’s Treats
This is essentially a huge chocolate chip cookie with a crispy texture from the sugar and croissant being cooked flat. The chocolate flavor was a bit lighter than we expected, but it worked well with the buttery flavor from the croissant.
We thought the flavor was great, but the texture wasn’t our favorite. We would probably prefer a chocolate croissant or chocolate chip cookie over this treat, but if you love crisp baked goods, this might be a favorite for you!
Sweet Heat Beignet Chicken Sandwich ($15.29) from Tiana’s Palace
Yummy! This was one of our favorite treats of the day. All of the flavors work super well together. The chicken is covered in buffalo sauce, which brings a bit of heat. It isn’t crazy spicy, but if you don’t like buffalo sauce, you will want to skip this one. The chicken was crispy, while the meat inside was still tender and juicy.
The slaw had a cool, tangy taste that helped offset some of the chicken’s heat. Then, you get a bit of sweetness and vanilla flavor from the beignets. We will definitely be back to grab this sandwich again!
Disney California Adventure
Infinity Cream Puffs ($9.50) from Terran Treats
This comes with six mini cream puffs in the following flavors: raspberry, cotton candy, key lime, strawberry, pabana, and orange cream. They are super bright and fun, and also taste delicious. We loved that each cream puff had a unique flavor. Each one’s puff pastry was perfectly cooked and filled with a cold and creamy filling.
Our favorite was probably the pabana (passionfruit, banana, lemon, and mango flavors). It was fruity and tropical. The key lime was surprisingly tart, the cotton candy tasted exactly like cotton candy, and the orange cream had a refreshing orange flavor.
The strawberry was tart and fruity with a blast of fresh flavor. The raspberry one was probably our least favorite, but it was still good. It just didn’t have as much flavor as the other ones.
Formulated French Toast ($11.99) from Pym Test Kitchen
The Formulated French Toast features bacon, blueberry-flavored popping spheres, Jamaica syrup, whipped cream, and sprinkles. We probably wouldn’t say this is our favorite breakfast option on Disneyland property. The bacon was the best part; it wasn’t too chewy and had a mix of smoky and savory flavors.
The french toast had a mild cinnamon flavor, but it was SO dry. The syrup helped with the dryness a bit, but it also brought out an odd flavor in the french toast that we weren’t a fan of. It was an artificially sweet flavor with a bit of floral notes. The popping boba had a very strong flavor, and we would honestly probably scrape it off next time.
Matcha-Raspberry Baymax Macaron ($7.79) from Lucky Fortune Cookery
This macaron is filled with raspberry gelee and matcha buttercream. The raspberry is the most prominent flavor in this treat, although you can also taste the matcha. It is not overly sweet, which we think is perfect for the flavor combination.
The macaron was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. We wish there was a bit more of the matcha flavor in this, but overall, we enjoyed it. Plus, we always love how adorable the Baymax macarons are!
Strawberry, Hazelnut, Chocolate & Pistachio Mickey Shake ($14.29) from Schmoozies!
This is a strawberry shake with pistachio whipped topping, fried kataifi, and chocolate sauce. Surprisingly, the hazelnut flavor was the most prominent flavor we tasted. We got a hint of strawberry, but it was definitely less pronounced than the hazelnut flavor.
We weren’t huge fans of the whipped cream; it was overly green and VERY thick. It was so thick it ended up sticking to the cup. You do get the pistachio flavor, but it’s very artificial. Also, be warned that the whipped cream will dye whatever it touches green! For almost $15, we don’t think this shake is worth it, unless you really love hazelnut or thick whipped cream.
Watermelon Cotton Candy ($6.50) from Outdoor Vending
There isn’t much to watermelon cotton candy, but it definitely lives up to its name! It has a light watermelon flavor paired with that classic cotton candy flavor. It is sweet with a hint of fruitiness, and we really enjoyed this treat.
The 70th Anniversary bag is also super fun. There is something so fun about chowing down on cotton candy in the middle of a theme park, and this treat delivers.
