There was a lot happening in the parks yesterday for New Year’s Eve, but something totally shocking was announced for Disney Springs out of the blue as well.
Disney Springs is home to many amazing restaurants and stores, most of them independently owned instead of being owned by Disney. So, sometimes these stores make choices that Disney has no say in, and that’s exactly what’s happening here. Yesterday, it was announced that EVERY Sprinkles cupcake location ANYWHERE would be closed for good on January 1st, and we’ve just confirmed that’s true in Disney Springs.
This morning, our first stop was none other than Sprinkles in Disney Springs to see if the news was true, and sadly, it is. The Sprinkles location is now permanently closed. The sign in front of the door says that the location is closed “for today,” but we have a feeling this sign was used just because Disney Springs didn’t have another sign on such short notice.
It’s also possible they couldn’t get into the building, because inside, there are still tons of Christmas decor and signage up, as if no one was able to clean it out before closing. The cupcake ATM is, as we expected, also closed. When we asked a Cast Member, we were told it would be closed forever, and no hours are listed on the Disney World website. The Disney World app also says it’s closed.
To confirm, this decision had nothing to do with Disney — again, every Sprinkles location across the country had its last day of operation out of nowhere yesterday. We’ve seen lots of stories online of people being laid off suddenly, the day prior, or the same happening to their relatives, and at the time, they had no idea why. Now, though, it’s clear to all.
The creator of Sprinkles, Candace Nelson, made a TikTok video talking about the closure. She created the company in 2005, but then sold it to private equity in 2012, so she hasn’t had any involvement in over a decade. She mentions in the video that she thought Sprinkles would continue to grow and be around “forever.”
@candacenelson Today is Sprinkles’ final day. As many of you know, I started Sprinkles in 2005 with a KitchenAid mixer and a big idea. Over the years, we expanded across the country and launched the Cupcake ATM. I sold Sprinkles in 2012 and have no ownership or operational involvement in the company. Still, it’s surreal to see this chapter come to a close – and it’s not how I imagined the story would unfold. I’m deeply grateful to the fans, customers, and community who showed up, celebrated with us, and made Sprinkles part of their traditions – and to the team who made it all happen. I’ll always be proud of what we built. Today, my heart is with the Sprinkles employees. 💔 If you have stories about how Sprinkles Cupcakes added a little extra sweetness, comfort, or connection to your life, please share them in the comments. #sprinklescupcakes #sprinkles
Of course, since this closure was so sudden, we have no idea what may be going on in this now-empty spot in Disney Springs, but we’re sure Disney’s minds are already turning with new ideas, and/or other businesses are getting ready to jump on the opportunity. We’re already looking forward to LEVEL99 opening in Disney Springs later this year, so perhaps now we’ll have another new business to be excited about as well.

I haven’t been to Sprinkles since they went cashless. I’m not charging a cupcake.
I’m not surprised it’s closed but i’m sad. I always made pilgramidges to Sprinkles every time I went to the disney area and I even brought some home on a flight as I loved them so much. when they reduced the staff a few years ago to 1 or at the most 2 employees, the quality of the cupcakes decreased. then the last time I went, last year, I was not impressed and I actually ordered less than I usually do as they didn’t look fresh at all and they were cutting corners. I’m very sad for those that lost their jobs but it’s clear they were having trouble. I hope they come back under another umbrella and go back to focussing on quality.

What!?!? How come? This is terrible news- this place was my GO-TO every time I was at the Springs. Even back in 2014 when I couldn’t find a place to eat because they were all booked solid, I found something there. As it was one of the closest food places in the Springs, it was ALWAYS my first stop before actual supper time.
As far as I am aware this closing is no great loss . I went there once and the cupcake I had was horrible. It was so sweet it hurt my teeth, and it was so hard and stale that I had to throw it away . It was a total waste of money and the time it took to wait in line to get it .
