One of the most challenging questions to answer during your Disney World vacation: Where should we eat in Magic Kingdom?
This park is known for having “not as exciting” food options, especially when it comes to table service dining. One spot that has been hated by fans in the past is Tony’s Town Square Restaurant, but in recent years, it has made a MAJOR comeback. Recently, I stopped by to see if it’s still on the up and up…so come along with me!
Atmosphere
Tony’s Town Square Restaurant is located in the Town Square area of Magic Kingdom, and it’s themed to Lady and the Tramp. Yep, it’s inspired by that iconic spaghetti scene!
In fact, there are several nods to the film inside and outside the restaurant, starting with these concrete pawprints out front near stroller parking.
To enter the restaurant, you’ll go into the Town Square Theater and turn left before you hit the Mickey Mouse meet and greet. They’ve got a small host’s stand and waiting area in here.
There are two main sections to this restaurant. The main dining room has a darker and cozier atmosphere…
…while the porch is bright and sunny with a great view of the park. If you can dine here during the parade and get seated in the sunroom, it’s like a fun secret hack!
But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?!
Menu
Tony’s Town Square Restaurant serves Italian fare, mostly focusing on pasta dishes. For Antipasti (appetizers), you’ll find Tony’s Garlic Bread For The Table, Fried Mozzarella, Caesar Salad, Insalata Caprese, House Salad, and Seasonal Soup. For your main course, or Secondi Piatti, you’ll find Chicken Parmigiana, Fettuccine Alfredo, Spaghetti and Meatballs, Salmon Piccata, Spaghetti and Impossible® Meatballs, Braised Beef Giardiniera, Rigatoni alla Vodka, and Oven-roasted Shrimp Scampi.
There’s also Dolci, or dessert, on the menu as well! You can grab Classic Cannoli, Flourless Chocolate Cake, Gelato, Seasonal Cannoli, Tiramisù, and Plant-based Affogato. You’ll also find kids’ options available here as well.
And now, onto the main event — the food!
Eats
First on the buy list, I snagged two appetizers to start my meal. These are some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes, and the menu items that really made us feel like Tony’s was finally taking a step in a positive direction a few years ago. Tony’s Garlic Bread For The Table is $14 and made with Toasted Ciabatta with Roasted Garlic Butter and Parmesan Fonduta.
This is more like garlic toast, because the bottom of each piece is toasted and crunchy, which I couldn’t get enough of! The top of each piece is extremely fluffy and airy, making for a fantastic combination. The Parmesan fondue on the side is the best part, especially since you can control how much you put on, but I also loved the garlic content in this dish. I could also taste the oil and vinegar they use to season the bread as well, in the best way, so consider me a BIG fan!
The other famous appetizer is the Fried Mozzarella for $16. This is a FOOT LONG mozzarella stick served with Spicy Creamy Tomato Sauce.
You’ll want to eat this one pretty fast, because while that cheese pull is fantastic, the moment the outside air can hit it, it’ll start to cool off, and it’ll become more of a mozzarella cheese stick consistency. The breading around it was crispy, but not necessarily crunchy, which I didn’t mind, but it’s important to note that the marinara on the side is spicy, so if you’re spice-adverse, you may want to stay away. You can also ask to substitute it for regular marinara, though! It is a little messy with the marinara on the plate as well, so be sure you’ve got your napkin nearby.
For my entrée, I snagged the Rigatoni alla Vodka for $26. It’s Rigatoni tossed in a Classic Tomato-Vodka Sauce topped with Citrus-Herb Breadcrumbs.
I decided to add chicken to this, and it was shockingly good! The chicken was lightly seasoned, more shredded, and was very juicy with a pretty good consistency. The pasta wasn’t perfectly al dente, but I wasn’t mad about that, so the dish overall was more on the soft side. I loved the finely shaved Parmesan on top that seemed to be mixed with breadcrumbs, and the pasta had a very well-rounded flavor that wasn’t too heavy on the tomato. I think it’s a great crowd pleaser, especially since I didn’t find any part of the dish to be overly salted (a common complaint at this spot).
Then, to wrap it all up with something sweet, I chose the Flourless Chocolate Cake for $9. It’s served with Pistachio Cream, Cherries, and Cocoa Nibs.
This was incredibly rich in the absolute best way. It had a smooth and thick texture with a deep, dark chocolate flavor — it was like eating the inside of a truffle. The topping was pistachio cream with little pistachio bits that added a crunchy texture, and there were some cherries on the side (like the sweet ones you get from a jar). The pistachio-cherry balanced well with the chocolate while still allowing it to be the main flavor. It’s a very rich dessert to eat on your own after a full meal, so I recommend sharing. I thoroughly enjoyed it, though, and was super impressed with it as compared to some other sit-down desserts I’ve had.
So how did Tony’s fare this time?
Nosh or Not
This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…
- You’re not afraid to load up on appetizers. This restaurant started to gain popularity when it debuted two AMAZING appetizers: Tony’s Garlic Bread and giant Fried Mozzarella. These two things alone make this spot worth a visit in our book! When you pour that rich, creamy Garlic Butter and Parmesan Fonduta over your garlic bread, it will all make sense. Trust us.
- You’re searching for a last-minute reservation. This restaurant has a pretty big dining room and plenty of reservations. Even if you’re scrambling for a last-minute reservation, you’ll probably have luck finding a table.
- You love dining al fresco. There aren’t many table service restaurants that offer outdoor seating in Disney World. Plus, if you time it right, you might even be able to watch a parade from your seat! We’ve been lucky enough to watch the Disney Starlight parade during our meal, and it made the experience 10X better.
You should skip this Disney World spot if…
- The entrees aren’t anything to write home about. Listen, we’re not in Italy. The food here is good, don’t get us wrong, but it’s not like a real Italian nonna is back in the kitchen preparing your meal. We’d compare this to your local Olive Garden. Great if you’re craving Italian food, but not the “real deal” for pasta snobs.
- Patio seating has its pros and cons… Yes, it was fun to see the parade during our meal, but we noticed two things about the outdoor tables: 1) It’s HOT outside, and they don’t do anything to cool it down. 2) Be warned that the indoor diners may try to come outside during a parade. A manager should tell them to go back inside, but note that you cannot come out to the patio if you’re seated inside.
- You plan to snack on DOLE Whip, Cheeseburger Spring Rolls, Giant Cinnamon Rolls, and Mickey Bars. One word: CARBOHYDRATES. You’re eating bread. You’re eating cheese. You’re eating pasta. That’s a lot of filling, heavy food! Magic Kingdom is a great place to snack your way around the park, but that’s hard to do when you’ve got a belly full of pasta. If you prefer to grab snacky food in Magic Kingdom, you might not need to book a sit-down reservation. There’s plenty to eat around the park!
Overall
I think this restaurant has gotten a bad rep for a long time, and that was because it was ROUGH. However, it’s really improved in recent years, and that’s a big deal to me. I think it’s definitely worth checking out this restaurant if you’re a fan of Italian food, and you want a last-minute reservation for a solid meal in Magic Kingdom.
In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more!

Let me preface this review by saying that I am 100% Italian & grew up eating home made Italian meals from scratch. I also have eaten in countless top notch NYC Italian restaurants all my life as well. So, I would consider myself someone who knows a thing or two about what is “good” or “bad” Italian food.
Well, after hearing over the past couple of years that Tony’s had changed and that it was no longer a horror show, we decided to give it a(nother) try after years of ignoring it during our last trip to WDW. As I recall, the service was very attentive. We were seated in the patio area, which felt very open and pleasant, as it was still during daylight hours. We did wind up ordering the foot long mozzarella stick which was fine, but more memorable because it was a foot long rather than because it was the best one we’d ever had (it wasn’t). But the tomato sauce served with it was “orangy” in color, exactly like the sauce in the photos in this review. It tasted (& looked) closer to Ragu than a well made pasta sauce that a chef had labored over in the kitchen. It was edible, but it wasn’t very good. I recall there was all this hoopla that Tony’s had hired a new chef & had replaced many of the old dishes & menu items and that this new chef was coming in to shake up things and bring in new & better dishes & recipes, etc.,
Anyway, I recall telling the Mrs. “Well, I hope my pasta dish doesn’t come with that same sauce!” Well, when my pasta dish hit the table, my worst fears were confirmed. It was the same sauce. A good, rich tomato sauce, or “gravy” is typically a rich red color & has the consistency of cottage cheese. This sauce had none of those characteristics. While it was “edible”, it was not very good. Matter of fact, I didn’t even finish my meal.
I often hear people trash Olive Garden as not being good Italian food? Well, I have eaten at Olive Garden & Olive Garden would be a HUGE improvement on Main Street than the current food & sauce in Tony’s IMO! Its a shame Tony’s continues to miss the mark, because with the location they have, all they really need to do is put out a GOOD product. It doesn’t have to me 5-Star. Boiling water to serve a half dozen pastas is half the battle. Tony’s got that part nailed. But a good Italian restaurant can live or die on their sauce. Conversely, any well trained chef CAN create a recipe for a good sauce. It just takes good, quality (& fresh) ingredients & time. So, I’m not sure what the problem is here, other than Disney probably being happy buying & serving some cheap canned sauce by the pallet & using that rather than having their cooks take the time to make a better sauce with fresh(er) ingredients because the bean counters in corporate are more worried about net park revenue than customer satisfaction.
Tony’s is not a pleasant experience. The wait, even with reservations made months in advance, is awful. You spend more time in that crowded waiting area without enough seating or on the hot porch with the sun blazing on you than you do eating your meal. The atmosphere is like a bus station food court. Noisy, overcrowded, chairs sticking out from corners of tables because of putting more people at tables than can fit. That garlic bread “for the table”…didn’t even give us enough pieces for everyone to have one piece, we had to share. This was our experience the last two times we tried to tolerate Tony’s. We were hoping the previous was a one-off but the “let’s give it another chance” was worse.
Ate there once about 10 years ago. Chicken Parm was ok, but plated wrong. The presentation was poor and unappealing.
We have always enjoyed Tony’s. And you’re right. That garlic bread is to die for.
