Magic Kingdom is full of construction right now, and honestly? That won’t be changing any time soon!
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will both be reopening after their refurbishments next year, but as for Piston Peak (replacing Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America) and Villains Land (behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad)? Yeah, those are still pretty far off in the future. However, it looks like there’s a lot happening behind the walls over at Piston Peak, because a WHOLE ton of dirt has been moved around!
From a slightly raised vantage point in Frontierland, we were able to see some major progress being made where Rivers of America used to be. Right now, it just looks like a TON of dirt, but hey, you’ve gotta move things around first to make room to build, right?
This possibly means that dirt has been moved out of a certain area to begin building a structure, or perhaps it’s new dirt that’s been brought in to replace the existing ground/be in addition to. The possibilities are endless, but we’re just happy to see so much progress being made.
What will be really interesting is how much we’ll be able to see when Big Thunder Mountain Railroad does reopen, as since the construction takes place so close, we’ll likely be able to see a LOT of what’s happening in both Piston Peak and Villains Land from the track, or even parts of the queue. We’ll be sure to be one of the first in line so we can check it all out for you!
Maybe this dirt is also for the start of one of the attractions coming to the space. There’s going to be a racing ride where you’ll go on a “thrilling rally race through the mountains. Take on wild terrain as you race across the landscape, climbing mountain trails, dodging geysers, and — Mater’s favorite — splashing through mudholes.” They also said there will be racing over rock terrain!

I doubt the railroad will reopen until construction is finished.
About cars land Piston peak cars ride at Disney world, I think it is going to look mismatched where the former Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America used to be. I think it was a big mistake for Disney imagineers to get rid of Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island to build a toon town googley eyed cars area right next to frontier land. I do think villains land will be a hit and cars rally racing will be a big hit with families with kids.
However the cars ride Piston peak ATV cars ride doesn’t sound like an exciting ride. It’s going to be a slow bumpy ride. Also if they leave out the forest fire plotline and Dusty crophopper airplane. This is going to be more disappointing than Tianas Bayou Adventure barebones ride. They should’ve gone with stagecoach or Stanley model t cars ride. I hope they can have a small riverboat ride inspired by mickeys steamboat Willie. While they’re at it they should retheme frontier land into New Orleans square town to better fit with Tianas Bayou Adventure ride.
I don’t think cars ATV slow ride is going do well and may flop with Disney park guests, they should’ve relocated cars ATV ride elsewhere and make it a fast ATV ride like the Pixar cars short radiator springs 500 1/2 and build a thunder hollow derby ride based on cars 3. But I’ll have to wait for a few years to see the results.
I really can’t invision cars land by what little description is being offered. No doubt, what was previously there was good, and right for the times so we are all at the mercy of the imagineers to recreate something bigger and better. Just can’t see it in my mind
