The Disney live-action trend is not going away anytime soon, especially after the blockbuster success of this year’s live-action Lilo & Stitch (which will be getting a sequel). Well, even more live-action adaptations are on the way, including a live-action Gaston film and a live-action Tangled film.
Now there were rumors that the live-action Tangled movie would not happen after the disappointing box office returns of the live-action Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. However, a Tangled movie still seems to be happening, and now we’ve got a huge update: according to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is now screen-testing actresses to play Rapunzel in that film.
That’s right. Disney is screen testing actresses in London for the lead role of Rapunzel (that’s Raps to her friends) in the live-action Tangled movie. At least four actresses have reportedly taken part in those screen tests, including Freya Skye, who recently starred in Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires.
Another actress reportedly screen-tested for the role is Sarah Catherine Hook, who recently appeared in The White Lotus.
Teagan Croft also screen-tested for the role. The actress is perhaps best known for her portrayal of the superhero Raven in the DC series Titans.
The fourth actress mentioned is Olivia-Mai Barrett, who has a role on Apple TV’s Invasion.
Disney also screen-tested actors for the role of Flynn Rider, including Milo Manheim, who stars in the Zombies franchise, along with Charlie Gillespie from Netflix’s Julie and the Phantoms. Scottish actor Gilli Jones also reportedly screen-tested for the role of the character.
The other big role to be cast is Mother Gothel. Scarlet Johansson was initially pegged for the role, but had to bow out due to other commitments. The live-action Tangled will be directed by Michael Gracey, who also directed The Greatest Showman.
