Perhaps the fastest way to take a trip around the world is by visiting EPCOT‘s World Showcase.
With 11 countries to visit, the park represents several cultures, and Disney Imagineers conducted extensive research to make these pavilions as accurate as possible. But did they succeed? We recently got some tips from our readers in the UK that there may be some inaccuracies in EPCOT.
We recently reached out to our UK readers on Facebook and asked them what some things are that they always or never do in the UK Pavilion in EPCOT. They had some interesting answers to that question, but hidden among the responses were some notes about the accuracy of the pavilion in general.
Let’s dive into some of the most fascinating ones!
The Bathroom Sign
One person said that every time they’re in the UK Pavilion, they “Complain to my wife that the sign says ‘Restrooms’ not ‘Toilets.’” Multiple people commented underneath that person’s message, saying that they’d noticed the sign problem as well.
Another person noted that the restrooms had an additional problem — they’re American-style stall doors that don’t touch the floor and ceiling. Honestly, we’d love the privacy of full doors, too, you guys.
The Fish & Chips
Multiple people noted in the comments section that the fish and chips are not accurately portrayed. One person said, “They are nothing like real fish and chips.” Another noted that the fish and chips don’t taste as good as they do back home.
These are an incredibly popular food item in EPCOT, so it’s interesting to hear that they’re not as similar as fans may think. If these chips aren’t proper, we’d love to get a more traditional rendition in the pavilion as well!
The Phone Booths
One change that’s for the better? Many UK residents noted in our comments that the phone booths are in MUCH better condition in EPCOT than they are back home. Why? They’re not covered in graffiti, and they don’t “smell of urine.” (EWWW!)
Thankfully, the custodial and security teams in Disney World are top-notch, so we’re really grateful to avoid this problem. It would be a much less magical photo op overall if that were the case.
Menu Questions
But perhaps one of the most common complaints about the UK Pavilion from the residents was the menu selection in EPCOT! Several people mentioned beers and beverages that they wish were on the menu in the pub or had been previously and have since been removed.
Others noted that they, “Always get angry at the menu, Shepherd’s pie is made with lamb, not beef!” Multiple people made menu suggestions for Rose & Crown, including items like Haggis, Neeps, and Tatties. Sounds interesting to us!
So the next time you’re in the UK, just know that it may not be exactly like what you can expect when you visit the real country. We’d be intrigued to hear from residents of other countries around the World Showcase to let us know how they stack up!

I’m not a Brit, so I can’t compare/contrast. I do, however, have one serious recommendation: REOPEN FOR LUNCH!.
I appreciate noting the differences, but the way this article is written, it appears that the Brits are whining about it. Really…Brits?!
Sheperds pie is normally lamb mince, and cottage pie made with beef mince
Hahaha I love this post. Yes the Epcot pavilion is nothing like the UK, and we always just skip through it. Its true, the shepherds pie is actually cottage pie (the beef version), and the menu could do with a good steak and ale pie with mushy peas. I think I would add a gin and tonic flight to the drinks menu too. But Epcot does have its bonuses – the weather is so much better in Florida!
This is a bit too negative for me. I think the UK pavilion is excellent and if anything it’s much nicer than a lot of places (certainly major cities like London) in the UK. So the fish and chips isn’t perfect but it’s pretty good.
