We recently got a chance to visit Disneyland Paris, and it’s an understatement to say that the parks blew our minds. We got to drink champagne on Main Street, eat at Walt’s — An American Restaurant, and meet Mickey Mouse in a Phantom Manor costume.
However, since our visit, Disneyland Paris has made a TON of announcements, including reveals about its conversion of Walt Disney Studios Parks into Disney Adventure World. One of those announcements was about a new nighttime show coming to that park, Disney Cascade of Lights, and now we have even MORE details about the new show.
Disney Cascade of Lights, which debuts on March 29th, will be a new nighttime show in Disney Adventure World using drones, pyrotechnics, choreographed fountains, and more. The new show will feature aquatic drones gliding across Adventure Bay, and the show will be designed so that it is easily viewable at every angle. It will also feature a new score recorded at Abbey Road Studios (yes, THAT Abbey Road) by a 90-piece orchestra, which will include a new original song “We Can Be Heroes.”
The structure for the show consists of a 14-meter central platform connected to four barges with extending arms that form something close to a circle, similar to the curves of the lake. Fully-electric pusher boats will quietly move all this equipment from the backstage marina, while each barge operator has received special training on moving the barges with “maximum precision.” Once all 379 aerial and aquatic drones are developed, rehearsals for the new show will begin.
This show will have the drones flying lower and closer to the audience, which isn’t something that’s really been done much. Show producer Ben Spalding worked with Dronisos, one of Disneyland Paris’ official partners, to create aerial drones that are more resistant to wind and rain, as well as aquatic drones, which they appropriately refer to as “ducks.”
The water will act like a mirror that will reflect all that light while the ducks will light up the lake’s surface with some help from low-angled lights around the show area. There are also fountains with their own light sources, and “various pyrotechnic effects.” It pretty much sounds like it will live up to its name of “Cascade of Lights.” The show will require 24 technicians working with for each of the performances.
The show will also tap into your emotions. Every character that will appear in the show was carefully selected. You’ll see Mulan, Moana, Hercules, Judy Hopps, the Avengers, Carl from Up, and more. Each of their visuals were carefully created to make sure they really pop when projected onto a curtain of water.
It sounds incredible, right? We’ll be keeping an eye out for more details about the changes coming to Disneyland Paris, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
