When it comes to dining at Disney World, you’ve got a TON of options, and we’ve got a ton of reviews. However, recently we ventured across the pond to Disneyland Paris.
While at Disney’s only European resort, we dined at Walt’s – an American Restaurant, which is located right on Main Street, and now we’re bringing you our FULL review.
Atmosphere
Located directly on Main Street is Walt’s. This restaurant is described as “Serving sophisticated and contemporary American cuisine with European influences, this is a Victorian-style tribute to the life and work of Walt Disney”.
Atmospherically, the restaurant was beautiful. It’s broken down into numerous rooms of various sizes, which give the whole environment the feel of dining in a Victorian family home.
The rooms were decorated with a mix of Disney family photos and memorabilia, as well as concept art that evoked the various lands of Disneyland, such as Frontierland and Fantasyland.
But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?!
Menu
We did the Prefix Menu, which cost €55 (approximately $60). It offered the following:
Starters
- Creamy Pea Soup, Whipped Isigny Cream and Smoky Popcorn: Peas, one of the ingredients found on the shopping list on Walt Disney’s fridge, are brought to you with a new twist as a soup, served with smoky popcorn and Isigny cream, a nod to the Disney family’s French origins
- Chicken Pot Pie: This classic American dish, made back in the day by Bessie Postalwaite (a Disney family cook). gets a French touch with its croissant pastry shell.
- Waldorf Salad: Roquefort Cheese and Lemon and Thyme Vinaigrette. One of the salads Walt loved to eat – it was even in the list attached to his fridge at home.
Main Courses
- Chilli con Carne: Tortilla Chips, Cheddar and Isigny Crème Fraîche, Red Onion, Coriander, White Rice and Kidney Beans. The two are inseparable, said Ron Miller, Walt’s son-in-law. He loved chilli and his favourite recipe was served at Chasen’s in Beverley Hills. This deconstructed version comes with a can of chilli, which was another of Walt’s firm favourites. The delicious Isigny crème fraîche is a little nod to France.
- Fillet of Farmhouse Chicken with a Golden Honey and Cajun-Spiced Coating: Cranberry sauce and Baby vegetables. Walt loved chicken, be it roasted or fried, so long as it came with gravy and just one vegetable as a side.
- Mac and Cheddar Cheese: Pasta, Cheddar Cheese Sauce, Pastrami and Shiitake
Desserts
- Flower Street Sundae: A nod to the Disneyland Paris address of Walt’s an American restaurant on 1401 Flower Street, but it’s also the address of Walt Disney Imagineering in Glendale, California.
- Pineapple Upside-Down Cake and Vanilla-Infused Isigny Crème Fraîche: Pineapple was one of Walt’s favourite fruits. Walt loved pie. This recipe mixes two of his favourite desserts with unctuous Isigny cream.
- The Steamboat Willie: Caramelised Millefeuille with Praline Mascarpone Cream
And what did we think of that food? Well…
Eats
As noted above, we went with the Prefix Menu offering for approximately $60 per person, and unfortunately, it did not live up to the surroundings of the restaurant. Let’s begin with the starters. The Cream Pea Soup was flavorless, and the popcorn it came with — while a unique concept — was stale, which didn’t help.
Moving on to the Chicken Pot Pie, this was slightly better, mainly due to the French-style croissant pastry. However, the chicken and veggie filling was — once again — bland and tasteless.
Even the Waldorf Salad — a dish we generally enjoy — was also bland and didn’t pack any sort of punch, which seems almost impossible given the mix of ingredients.
Moving on to the entrees, let’s begin with the Chili Con Carne. As a cute nod to Walt Disney’s well-documented love of canned chili, the dish was plated with the chili in a can-shaped dish. Unlike everything else so far, the chili had a nice flavor to it, a bit of sweetness that may have been attributable to brown sugar. Unfortunately, the rest of the dish didn’t live up to the chili. The steak was mushy with a gristle taste, while the rice was bland, undercooked, and stiff.
The Farmhouse Chicken was also a disappointment. The chicken was dry, to the point that it was hard to cut through, a we drowned it in the sweet cranberry sauce. The accompanying veggies were nothing special, and didn’t do much to elevate the disappointing chicken.
So, the Mac & Cheese was probably our favorite of the three entrees. It was tasty, and the mushrooms added an interesting texture. However, for the price and atmosphere, it still had the feel of being from a can.
The desserts fared slightly better as far as we were concerned. All three were similar to the desserts offered at the company’s domestic parks. The Pineapple Upside Down Cake was a dense offering that came with an admittedly delicious French cream.
The Steamboat Willie may have been our favorite thing on the whole menu. The dish was slightly tough to eat as it was tough to cut through the pastries. But either way, it didn’t matter. The praline, almond, and mascarpone all came together to form a deliciously sweet mix.
Drinks
On to the drink menu, we tried several options. First up was the Edition Spéciate Disneyland Paris – Champagne Pierre Mignon Grande Réserve in a souvenir glass, which costs €20 (approximately $23). As a Champagne, it was solid, if not spectacular. Bubbly, and not overly sweet.
Next there was the Floral Imagination, which is a cocktail of Bleu de Limoges gin, Vermouth Dry, violet liqueur, lavender syrup, apple juice, lime drink, and egg white. This one costs €18, which is roughly $21.00. We were not fans of this one. It was overly sweet and almost tasted like drinking perfume.
Finally, there’s the Sweet Main Street. This mocktail is exclusive to Walt’s an American Restaurant and “pays tribute to Main Street, U.S.A., the land inspired by Walt Disney’s childhood memories.” The drink mixes cranberry juice, apple juice, Candyfloss syrup, and Candyfloss. It costs €13, or about $15.00. Being a non-alcoholic drink, this is clearly aimed at kids, and it certainly delivers in that regard. It was almost like drinking liquid cotton candy (which complemented the cotton candy it was served with).
Overall
Walt’s – an American Restaurant was sadly a disappointment. We loved the aesthetic. Both the decor and the Main Street setting are fantastic. However, the food we were served was a massive disappointment on nearly every level. We liked the options the menu offered, but the food itself just tasted bland and could have used more salt and flavor. Also of note, we ran into some issues with our service. While there are likely some cultural differences at play, the staff weren’t attentive at times, and seemed overworked.
If you’re making a trip to Disneyland Paris anytime soon, it may be tempting to consider Walt’s given its theme, location, and perceived status as one of the park’s premier restaurants. If it’s really something you want to do, give it a try. Your experience may be vastly different than our own. Everyone is different; you may have a different chef, or your taste buds might simply think our review of this spot was off the mark! But we will say, we feel there are better spots to eat at in Disneyland Paris. Stay tuned to DFB for more on Disney’s restaurants around the world.

We ate at Walt’s last year. We loved it. The atmosphere and the food.
this was so disappointing to read – I love Disneyland Paris and have been a few times – but not since Covid –
this was always a dear favorite of mine and Ive eaten there three times – each time the food was clever and truly delicious – the service was also perfect – something must have happened to change this and i hope it changes back asap
