A new sloth habitat is opening near Disney World in February 2026.
Sloth World, the world’s first and only “Slotharium,” is opening near Disney World. Sloth World will offer guided, small-group experiences inside a rainforest-style habitat where sloths live freely among trees, vines, and natural climbing structures.
According to The Sloth Conservation Foundation, Sloth World is a no-touch facility since conservationists have warned that holding, hugging, and posing with sloths can be stressful and harmful to the sloths. It’s 7,500 square feet with more than 40 sloths across multiple specifies inclduing babies born on site. You enter with small, guided groups to observe sloths as they eat, sleep, and climb.
Pete Bandre, vice president of Sloth World, said, “We want guests to feel like they’ve stepped into the sloths’ world—not the other way around. There are no cages or barriers—you step right into their environment. It’s peaceful, natural, and unlike anything else. We want every visitor to walk out with a deeper understanding of how extraordinary these animals are, why their protection matters, and how simple actions can help support sloth populations around the world.”
The Sloth Conversation Foundation did research into where the sloths came from, and according to Sloth World, they were “wild-sourced stock from Guyana,” “long-term U.S. captives originally from Guyana”, and “F1 and F2 captive-born U.S. generations of original Guyana imports.” Wild-caught sloths can be a problem since they rely on “highly specific diets, natural microclimates, and complex canopy structures to regulate temperatures and stress.” This type of environment is very difficult to reproduce and manufacture, and can cause stress-related illness in sloths.
There is a lot of concern about the sloths being taken out of their natural habitats for commercial display. Dr. Rebecca Cliffe, from the Sloth Conservation Foundation, says, “Ultimately, the question we all have to ask is whether these actions truly benefit the animals themselves, or whether they primarily benefit people. For sloths, especially wild-caught three-fingered sloths, it is difficult to argue that captivity serves their interest.”
Sloth World is set to open in February 2026. Make sure you keep following DFB for more updates around the Orlando area.

This is lovely. I can’t get over how many “nice” articles DFB has put out on this newsletter today. It’s really uplifting
This doesn’t seem like a good thing. Sloths are solitary and get stressed around humans. This seems more like exploitation in order to make money as opposed to what’s in the best interest of the species.
