We can’t say we weren’t disappointed when Disney revealed that Muppets Courtyard would be going away forever at Hollywood Studios.
But that doesn’t mean we’re not excited about the new Monsters, Inc. land that will be replacing The Muppets! Disney has slowly been sharing information, and we’ve been getting sneak peeks behind-the-scenes, too. Disney recently filed new permits for this transformation, and we’re diving into the details.
Disney recently filed new permits for the transformation of Muppets Courtyard to Monstropolis at Hollywood Studios. The permits appear to match up with the address of the former Muppet*Vision 3D theater, indicating that work is finally underway on the upcoming Monsters, Inc.-themed show coming to this land.
The first permit lists the Jon Richards Company, FL, Inc., as the contractor on the work. This general contracting company specializes in themed scenery, specifically as it pertains to theaters and beyond. They’ve worked on Disney meet-and-greets in the past, along with work at Universal Studios.
The work is for general construction, which doesn’t give us many specifics, but it does mean that some of the theming construction is expected to begin soon.
The second permit is also for general construction, but it lists Solotech Sales and Integration USA, Inc. as the contractor. Solotech is an audio-visual company, which means that work is also likely to start on the screen and speaker elements of the new show soon as well.
In addition to a new restaurant — Harry Hausen’s, Monstropolis will also be home to Disney World’s first suspension coaster, themed after the door chase scene from the Monsters, Inc. movie. This coaster will be part of an expansion into part of what was a Cast Member parking lot.
The story of the new land will pick up after the events of the popular Pixar film, and humans have now been invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc. Disney shares that here, “you’ll be able to stroll the streets alongside some of your favorite monsters” and even visit the Laugh Factory!
We’ll be on the lookout for more updates on Monstropolis you need to know about. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and beyond.
