To say we were devastated when Disney revealed that Muppets Courtyard would be going away forever at Hollywood Studios would be an understatement. But the new details and construction sneak peeks we get about the new Monsters, Inc. land that will be replacing The Muppets make us feel just a little bit better each time.
Speaking of which, we just got a look at some new aerial photos of Monstropolis construction, and it looks like things are moving right along!
Thanks to our pal @bioreconstruct, who shared these aerial photos on social media, we’ve got a pretty solid idea of how things are shaping up over in Monstropolis! You can see that most of the ground covering has been cleared, leaving just dirt behind. In addition, pretty much any semblance of Muppet-theming has been removed, and there seems to be a lot more grey.
This angle gives us a better look at the former PizzeRizzo, which does appear to still have some of its awning and signage up. Rat pizza is officially off the menu, boys.
Below, we can see the former Muppets storefront along with the main Mama Melrose structure, which was the only table-service restaurant in this land. While Disney has yet to officially confirm it, the concept art for Monstropolis shows Harryhausen’s restaurant.
Could this mean we are getting a sushi restaurant in Disney’s Hollywood Studios? We feel pretty confident about this one because it was shown in all 3 of Disney’s concept art of this land. We are eager to hear more details on the menu and specifics of this restaurant!
In addition to the new restaurant, Monstropolis will also be home to Disney World’s first suspension coaster, themed after the door chase scene from the Monsters, Inc. movie. This coaster will be part of an expansion into part of what was a Cast Member parking lot, and from the photo below, it looks like Disney has cleared the land for this structure and is working on pouring the foundation.
The story of the new land will pick up after the events of the popular Pixar film, and humans have now been invited to visit the world of Monsters, Inc. Disney shares that here, “you’ll be able to stroll the streets alongside some of your favorite monsters” and even visit the Laugh Factory!
While we await details, in November 2024, Disney also revealed that Monsters, Inc. Land will have a new theater show.
We’ll be on the lookout for more Monstropolis updates you need to know about. In the meantime, stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and beyond!

I wonder if we are going to walk under the road in between Muppet Courtyard and the Monsters’ Inc show building?
Confusing to me. Why don’t we have synergy between the parks. Laugh Floor and a family friendly Muppets attraction would go well in Monstropolis, Buzz lightyear too.
