Over the course of the last 70 years, Disney has opened 12 theme parks across the world, from Anaheim’s original Disneyland all the way to the modern marvel that is Shanghai Disneyland.
Spread across the 6 resorts that house those 12 parks, Disney’s Imagineers have crafted hundreds of attractions, rides, and experiences, and over the years, we here at DFB have been lucky enough to see them all. Suffice to say, it’s tough to surprise us at a Disney park… tough, but not impossible.
On a recent sojourn to the Disneyland Paris Resort, we spotted sheep!
Not sheep figures, not animatronic sheep, REAL SHEEP!
What are these sheep doing in the missile of the park? Believe it or not, they’re actually there serving a very important purpose: According to Disneyland Paris, the sheep are actually part of their Environmental Responsibility initiative. The sheep are used for “eco-grazing” in backstage areas, as well as at the Disney Davy Crockett Ranch. According to the resort, every year, 5 to 7 hectares of land are grazed by a French breed of sheep.
The animals and their eco-grazing are part of a larger environmental initiative. The resort’s mission statement in that regard is laid out as such: “As a creator of stories that inspire current and future generations, the environment is taken into account in every decision we make, so we can create a unique and magical experience while passing on a positive and sustainable legacy to future generations.”
Next time you take a trip to Disneyland Parks, make sure to be on the lookout for these four-legged friends, who are helping the environment in the most adorable way possible! Stay tuned to DFB for more under-the-radar Disney insights!
