Driving around the Orlando area is about to change forever as Waymo – the company behind a fleet of autonomous self-driving cars that function like taxis – is coming to the City Beautiful.
After reports emerged earlier in 2025 that the proclaimed “future of transportation” was coming to the city, Waymo confirmed that its service was coming to Orlando within weeks.
In fact, according to Waymo’s social media accounts, Orlando is one of several major American cities that will feature the new Waymo service. Others include Miami, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio.
According to a blog post on the company’s website, “Waymo’s quickly entering a number of new cities in the U.S. and around the world, and our approach to every new city is consistent. We compare our driving performance against a proven baseline to validate the performance of the Waymo Driver and identify any unique local characteristics. As needed, we then refine the Waymo Driver’s AI to navigate these local nuances—which are becoming fewer with every city.”
The post goes on to say that their “rigorous process of continuous iteration, validation, and local engagement ensures that we put communities first as we expand. This commitment is how we will continue to bring the safe, reliable, and magical ride-hail experience to more Waymo riders around the globe.”
Waymo, which was founded in 2016, can trace its roots through the Google Self-Driving Car Project of 2009 and Stanford Self-Driving Car Project of 2004. As of 2025, the company’s self-driving car services gave 250,000 paid rides per week, totaling over 1 million miles monthly.
The self-driving “robotaxi” service Waymo is about to arrive in Orlando and several other major American cities. Stay tuned to DFB for further updates as the service rolls out.

We have Waymo in San Francisco. They’re awesome! I wonder how they are going to control them at the Disney resort hotels. What if they dont want to let the waymo passenger through the main gates? How could they tell the waymo to turn around and leave?
