When it comes to dining at Disney World, you’ve got a TON of options. Want something quick and easy? You’ve got it. Something middle-of-the-road and comforting? Yep, that too. And if you’re looking for something upscale and luxurious, you can find that as well.
We recently stopped by Topolino’s Terrace at Disney’s Riviera Resort to see what was cookin’ for breakfast, and now we’re bringing you our FULL review. Is it worth a stop on your next trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth? Find out here!
Atmosphere
Topolino’s Terrace — Flavors of the Riviera is located atop Disney’s Riviera Resort!
This rooftop restaurant features signature dining for dinner, fireworks views in the evening, and a prix fixe Character Breakfast — Breakfast à la Art with Mickey & Friends! Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy start the day with you in art-inspired costumes unique to Topolino’s!
Topolino’s Terrace is inspired by “cliffside restaurants of the Riviera,” and the cuisine features regional favorites. The name Topolino means Mickey Mouse in Italian, so this elegant dining experience still has a Disney flair!
The restaurant boasts an outdoor terrace with incredible views of the Riviera and other surrounding resorts, which makes it an excellent place to catch some fireworks at night! We will say, though, that this character breakfast can get a bit rowdy and loud in here. Just something to keep in mind if you’re looking to book a table!
But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?!
Menu
The breakfast menu is prix fixe and features your choice of one entrée, plus assorted beverages like coffee, juice, soda, milk, and more. Breakfast for adults is $54 per person and $35 per child.
In addition to the included drinks, alcoholic and nonalcoholic cocktails and more are available for an upcharge.
And now, onto the main event — the characters!
Characters
Topolino’s Terrace features a character breakfast, featuring some of your favorites, including Sculptor Donald…
…Ballerina Daisy…
…Writer Minnie…
…and Painter Mickey!
Each character walks around and will visit your table at least once, so you can take photos and get autographs if you’d like!
Eats
Before the entrées come out, you’re greeted with a basket of different pastries, including croissants, chocolate chip muffins, and pain au chocolat, along with an assortment of spreads. The spreads include honey butter, house-made fruit jam, and a chocolate-hazelnut mousse similar to Nutella.
The croissant was flaky and buttery, the pain au chocolat was flaky, buttery, and had a bit of chocolate inside. We wish there were a bit more chocolate, though. The chocolate muffin was soft and moist, and had a couple of slightly melted chocolate chips on top that added some creamy chocolate flavor.
The chocolate-hazelnut spread was creamy and chocolaty, with a hint of hazelnut flavor. The jam was more liquid, which made it easy to dip the pastries into. It was sweet and fruity and tasted like a strawberry. The butter was your classic butter with a hint of honey sweetness. Creamy and fluffy, pretty easy to spread on the pastries.
This was really solid! It came out super quickly (we ordered it, and probably 2 minutes later it arrived), so we were a bit worried. But this was one of the better steak and eggs we’ve ever had anywhere, let alone at Disney World. We ordered the steak medium and the eggs fried and over easy.
The steak was cooked really well and was super tender. It had a bit of a chew to it, but it didn’t feel like a mouth workout. It was topped with some tender mushrooms and some cooked tomatoes. The polenta below the steak was cheesy, buttery, and had the slightest bit of grit. It was a great texture and complemented the steak well.
The potatoes had a crispy outside and were soft and tender on the inside. They had a bit of seasoning to them, but for the most part, you just got a lot of great tomato flavor.
The eggs were cooked really well, too, which is exactly what we asked for. They had a crispy bottom, and the egg yolks were runny when we cut into them. We would have loved it if there had been a piece of toast to dip into the runny eggs, but hey, we’re not complaining.
Drinks
We had to get a glass of POG juice, which is passion fruit, orange, and guava — it’s a staple of Disney World, and for a good reason. It’s so fruity and tropical, but it’s also sweet and tart at the same time. If you like tropical flavors, you won’t go wrong with this one!
We also ordered the Island Fusion Punch, which was an additional $16.50. This is made with Mount Gay Eclipse Rum, Passion Fruit-Orange-Guava Juice, Pineapple, and Lime Juice.
This was good, although it tasted like a watered-down POG juice. We actually enjoyed the non-boozy POG juice itself much more than the alcoholic drink. However, if you want some alcohol in a sweet and fruity drink, this would be a great choice.
You can definitely taste the passion fruit, orange, and guava, but with the other ingredients, it ends up not tasting as strong as a normal POG juice. It wasn’t crazy strong, but you could definitely taste a hint of the alcohol, and we could definitely feel it a bit too.
Nosh or Not
This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…
- You’re looking for a fun character breakfast that doesn’t sacrifice good quality food. While the characters are the main draw here, the food is also excellent. Many times it’s hard to find both, but at Topolino’s, we don’t think you’ll leave disappointed.
- You want somewhere to eat along the Skyliner route. This restaurant is pretty convenient to get to if you’re staying along the Skyliner route or are planning on going to EPCOT or Hollywood Studios after breakfast.
- You want a nice, sit-down meal before you start your chaotic day. If rope-drop isn’t your thing and you like a slow start to your morning, this is a great choice!
You should skip this Disney World spot if…
- You want to get to the parks as early as possible. Chances are, you’ll miss rope drop if you dine here for breakfast.
- You’re looking for a quick breakfast before heading into the parks. This is a sit-down meal, and while service can be pretty quick, it won’t be as quick as grabbing something from a counter-service spot.
- You don’t care about characters. At breakfast, the prix fixe price means that you’re paying more for the characters than the food, so keep that in mind.
Overall
The overall atmosphere was very chaotic, but we feel like that is to be expected. It is a prix fixe menu that includes your choice of coffee or juice, pastries, and a choice of entree. We love that the characters are dressed up to match the theming, and at the end of their set, they do a little song and dance that was really fun! They move fairly quickly from table to table, but definitely spend more time with larger groups and kids. It’s a little bit on the pricey side; however, the food was really good, and you get to see some iconic characters. Plus, the view from Topolino’s Terrace is wonderful!
In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more!
