Y’all, we’ve got a little price situation in Disney World we need to chat about!

Neapolitan Cake
Whether you’re grabbing a Mickey-shaped ice cream bar, indulging in an over-the-top cupcake in the parks, or lining up for specialty treats at resorts, sweets are everywhere at Disney World. There is one place that really stands out to us, and while the desserts are delicious, the prices have drawn extreme amounts of fascination and criticism from DFB readers.
We’re talking about the $22 slices of cake at The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers! Yes, that’s $22 for ONE slice of cake. Now, these cake slices are huge. They are decadent. They are beautiful…but they’re also the price of some of our favorite entrees in Disney World. “22 bucks for cake slice not my jam,” said DFB Instagram follower @pimneypointfarm, and they weren’t alone.
“$22 holy 😮 moly. Not sure it’s worth that,” wrote @teresaparrish23. And @buckeyekap said, “It can be yours for one month of rent!”
Shortly before the Cake Bake Shop opened, the menu prices started stirring up plenty of controversy among Disney fans, with a classic burger with pommes frites priced at $32, and child’s grilled cheese priced at $18. The day before the restaurant’s official opening in October 2024, many menu prices were lowered, with the burger now priced at $28 and the child’s grilled cheese at $14.

The Cake Bake Shop in Disney World
So why would people pay so much for a slice of cake here? For many, it’s about a combination of taste, presentation, and the “Disney premium”. To many guests, a cake slice here is more than dessert: it’s part of the experience, a photo moment, something you remember. They are easily big enough to share with a friend or two (or let’s be honest, 4 people with self control)! The DFB team comes running when we hear there is a new flavor of cake to review — our faves have included the Millionaire Cake and the limited-time Southern Style Caramel Cake.

Southern Style Caramel Cake
And while many DFB followers say $22 is too much to pay for a dessert, plenty of you are fans, too. @cdpaniccia said, “The slices are large and fed 4 of us. The cakes were exceptionally good.” “It is a small business from Indiana that is paying Disney for that spot so I understand the price point,” wrote @chappletini on Instagram.
Now, there’s no question that this cake is great. We have reviewed nearly every flavor here, and we found the Millionaire Cake simply heavenly. We loved the balance of tart and sweet flavors in the Raspberry Champagne Cake. And the Coconut Cake was light and decadent.

There’s also no question that these cake slices are shareable. There is a generous portion here for two people, and it could be shared among three to four people who just want a bit of dessert. So, if you’re into girl math, split this three ways and it’s basically three $7 desserts, or $11 desserts for two. This brings it into the price range of the also decadent $11 cake slices sold at Gideon’s Bakehouse in Disney Springs…except that those are also huge and easily split.
And there are other shareable desserts in Disney World that come with an even higher price. We’re looking at you Kitchen Sink Sundae at Beaches and Cream.
This over-the-top dessert is $39, and the menu says it serves 4. It includes scoops of Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, Cookies ‘n Cream, and Mint Chocolate Chip topped with Hot Fudge, Peanut Butter, Snickers pieces, Brownie, and additional toppings.
So who will love The Cake Bake Shop? Dessert lovers, foodies, Instagram / photo-obsessed guests, couples seeking a romantic treat stop, or guests staying near BoardWalk who want to break up park days with indulgent sweets. If you enjoy dessert as part of your vacation, this is right in your wheelhouse.
But what to do if you want to skip it, or if that price point is just too high? There are always those $11 cake slices at Gideon’s Bakehouse. Or if you’re at the BoardWalk already, head to BoardWalk Ice Cream, where you can get the Thundering Surf Peanut Butter and Chocolate Sundae for $9.29. And don’t forget about another of our favorite Disney World cakes — the Grapefruit Cake at the Hollywood Brown Derby.

One of the most overrated places in all of WDW. Don’t waste your money.
Why indeed…. A fool and his money are soon parted….
A pub restaurant here in the UK, about 10 minutes drive from us sells cake slices like these. I like to take one home as it takes me 4 sittings to eat all of it. So, basically, it serves 4 people. It’s baked on site, not brought in. It costs just £5.79, including tax and you can get a Blue Light Card discount which brings it to £4.92 a slice. Some of the flavours are cheaper than this. Why would I want to spend $22 plus tax on the same thing?
The cake isn’t anything special. Gideon’s cakes and Chef Art Smith’s cakes are better and cheaper. I’m still wondering why The Cake Bake Shop charges $8.00 for a glass of tea.
Ridiculous unless 4 people split one slice.. typical DISNEY over the top food pricing.
