When Toy Story Land opened in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2018, it wowed fans with its incredible theming and larger-than-life set pieces.
With three rides and a popular quick service restaurant (followed by a table service spot and gift shop that opened a few years later) inside a land based on a beloved movie series, it’s no wonder that Toy Story Land stays busy year-round. But if there’s one complaint that the masses have about the land…it’s the lack of shade!
You see, when you’re building a land that’s “located” in Andy’s backyard and we’re all meant to be the size of Green Army Men, it’s likely that you want guests to have an unobstructed view of how large everything around them is. Unfortunately, that means that there’s a LOT of direct sun when you’re walking through the land.
Recently, Disney began constructing a new popcorn stand in Toy Story Land, near the iconic “Cooties” bathrooms. When the walls went up a few months ago, there wasn’t much telling what it would be, and fans got their hopes up for some more shade.
We posted photos of the new popcorn stand (whose sign is visible above the edges of the walls) and several Disney Adults expressed their disappointment in the comments that the construction wasn’t a way to inject more shade into Toy Story Land. One follower said, “They’re doing everything but giving us shade 😅! They could easily make huge blades of grass (like in Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground) and that can be the shade and play to the Andy’s backyard aspect!”
Another joked, “With absolutely no shade added 😂,” while one person said, “More shade is needed over there. It’s the pits of hell in the heat.” Wow, fans have some strong feelings on this topic!
Some commenters shared that they hope the new snack spot will come with shaded tables nearby. Currently, there are walls up on the side by the popcorn stand as well as walls across the street on the corner of Galaxy’s Edge. We can cross our fingers that one of these sections will come with a seating area…WITH umbrellas, please!
In all honesty, we totally understand how the fans feel. We’re in the parks nearly every day of the year, and that means our team is out there sweating it out with you guys in those sweltering summer months. Team Add More Shade to Toy Story Land unite!
Of course, we’ll keep an eye on the construction and we’ll let you know when the popcorn stand opens. We can’t wait to check it out!

The queue for Slinky Dog should have been indoors like Toy Story Mania. It can be a painfully slow moving line and for that reason should have been climate controlled considering the environment.
