Today is a big day over in EPCOT, because one of the park’s most popular rides is CLOSED as of today for a big change to take place.
Disney announced back in October that Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure would be closing for a short period of time this month, from November 10th to 13th, for some big updates to the ride. This means that there will be one less ride available during your EPCOT trip for the next few days, and once it opens back up, it’ll look pretty different.
Beginning today, November 10th, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is now closed for all guests, but it’ll reopen just a few days later on November 14th (though that date could change if the refurbishment takes longer than expected). This is to turn this attraction from 3D into 2D, meaning that 3D glasses will no longer be required to ride. (All regular glasses wearers, rejoice!)
Lots of people who struggle with motion sickness are looking forward to this change, as we know many people have said that 3D attractions often bother them more than 2D, so this change may also make the ride more accessible. That’s not all, though — new props and lighting will also be added to the queue and attraction over the coming months, but Disney hasn’t revealed any more on what that will actually look like. Disney has not announced that the ride will need to be closed for these additions, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be announced in the future, so stay tuned to DFB — we’ll keep you in the know!
This isn’t the only version of the ride changing, either! Disney announced in August that similar changes would be coming to the original version of the ride in Disneyland Paris, but its closure will be much longer. This version of the ride will be receiving technical upgrades, scenic enhancements, new props, an enhanced queue, and more, including a new scene depicting a Parisian artist’s studio, “teeming with details and accessories such as canvases on the walls, paint splatters, and a fruit basket that may well whet the appetite of all the adorable rats in the neighbourhood.”
The ride’s projectors will also be replaced with 2D, so neither attraction will have the original 3D animation. This attraction closed back in October for all these changes to occur, and isn’t expected to reopen until Spring 2026. Alongside the reopening of this ride, Disneyland Paris is also expected to welcome World of Frozen in 2026, along with Walt Disney Studios Park becoming Disney Adventure World. The new name comes with a brand-new ride that will be inspired by Disney Pixar’s UP, a Tangled Spin ride, and Disney’s first-ever ride themed after The Lion King. However, no firm opening dates are available for any of those rides.

I am at the earliest stages of planning a visit to WDW in early May 2027. Although I’ve been there many times previously, it will be my first time confined to a wheelchair. I know that some rides have complete accessibility, but I want to make sure that those include my favorites before moving forward. If I can find out the answer(s), Serious planning will begin. I’ll be flying from either Boston or Providence into Orlando, so it is imperative that I make sure my medical companion – whomever that will be – can transfer me from my chair into the airline chair. These are extremely limited, of course. I plan to do that on my own. I will contact Small World Vacations about appropriate accommodations preferably in a monorail resort. But, again, none of this is valid if I can’t ride Pirates of the Caribbean. I know Haunted Mansion, Spaceship Earth, etc., are fine, and I don’t care about any of the roller coasters (except Big Thunder Railroad), but what about the new attractions yet to be opened? Does anyone have an idea??? Any input would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks from a member of the People Mover Fan Club (sadly, non accessible because of the escalator).
So they are closing this ride to make it……. Worse???
They did this in Paris and it was supposedly well-received. I don’t think it’s just motion sickness. I’ve always found these 3D motion rides to be less than ideal. Projectors don’t seem to have the frame rate necessary to keep the video smooth when combined with vehicle motion and 3D. They always look choppy and out of sync to me. You really need at least 120 FPS for these kind of situations, and I believe most rides like this use 60 FPS. That leaves only 30 FPS per side, which can look choppy even without motion.
Flight of Passage also has similar issues, but I believe those projectors do have higher framerates. Still, it often seems like they are not properly calibrated and suffer chromatic aberration, with the purple colors bleeding.
I’m surprised it is only a few days. The smallest changes at Disney seems to take at least months. I suppose that puts a damper on the rumors of additional props being added as well.
