Epic Universe has been a major topic of conversation since it opened in May 2025! The park has had to change rules, we’ve eaten more food than we care to think about, and we’ve been busy unlocking every secret and tip imaginable.

Epic Universe
As the year begins to wrap up, and the park heads into the new year, we’ve seen even more changes on the horizon. Now, Universal has made a statement that makes us think the parks are going to be even more crowded in 2026.
Universal has finally confirmed what we were curious about for the last several months. Universal has confirmed they haven’t filled the park to full capacity even after the park has opened for several months. This means lower crowds than what the park is even capable of holding.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Mike Cavanagh, president of Comcast (and future co-CEO of the company), stated, “We’ve been holding back a little bit to make sure the experience is what we want it to be. Expect it to fully scale up in the months ahead.” The statements were made during the quarterly earnings call on October 30th, 2025.

Opening crowds at Epic Universe
While we had speculated before this that attendance was capped, this is our first official confirmation from the company. He continued to say, “Our focus now is driving increased ride capacity. It’s a new park and very technologically advanced. We’re still working on the labor and the kinks to drive it to full capacity.” This isn’t a huge surprise that their focus would be on rides because wait times are still fairly high for the park to not be at capacity.

Queue for the standby line at Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry
We track wait times for the park, and rides like Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry are still seeing wait times as high as 150 minutes. Mario Kart and Mine Cart Madness also regularly see highs of 170+ minutes.

Mine-Cart Madness
While he didn’t confirm when the capacity cap would end, we can assume it will be sometime in 2026. Cavanagh also shared that the entire Universal resort has benefited from the opening of the new theme park. He shared, “We’re very pleased. The idea was to have Epic head us toward a week-long vacation experience. One of the nice things is that lesser cannibalization of attendance from our two preexisting parks than we expected.”

Dark Universe in Epic Universe
We’re eager to see if Universal will confirm when they increase capacity. While we assume they won’t make a formal statement, we think the wait times will reflect the change. The park is already focusing on expanding, and we will be sure to keep an eye on the changes on the horizon. Be sure to keep following DFB for more Universal news and updates.
