Disneyland Quietly Reopens Big Thunder Mountain Railroad After Two Month Closure

Okay, we’ve been there. You plan a trip to Disneyland, only to discover that one of your favorite rides is closed for refurbishment. Granted, we sometimes have a little heads up when Disneyland closes rides, but we’re never entirely sure of when they’ll reopen. Well, that’s not the case with Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Disneyland’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed in September for a months-long refurbishment. Well, it looks like as of today, the ride has officially reopened.

When Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed in September, we didn’t have much of a reopening timeline for the ride. Perhaps that’s why it’s so surprising that the ride reopened today. As of today, the Disneyland website is showing hours for the ride.

Now, don’t get confused because for a while, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad was closed in both Disney World AND Disneyland were both closed at the same time. However, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Disney World is undergoing a MAJOR overhaul, so it’s not going to be reopening so soon (our best guess is sometime in 2026). But if you want to take a cruise on the Wildest Ride in the Wilderness, you can do so on the West Coast!

You’ll also want to keep an eye out for other closures in Disneyland. Storybook Land Canals is currently closed for an update (which will include a new Tangled scene). In Fantasyland, “it’s a small world” is closed while it gets its holiday overlay. Indiana Jones Adventure will be closed for a few days in December.

You’ll want to keep an eye on the Disneyland website to stay updated on closures, but we’ll also try to make sure you know what’s going on. So stay tuned to DFB for more.
