Disney abandoned the Star Wars-themed hotel in Disney World for various reasons, primarily having to do with revenue. Many fans of the saga were disappointed they never got the opportunity to visit the ultra-immersive, cruise-like experience, while others weren’t surprised by its closing.
Now that it’s closed, it’s just a giant cement building sitting just outside Hollywood Studios. So, what does Disney plan to do with it, and have there been any updates? Let’s dig into the current state of the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Hotel.
Back in January 2025, we learned that the Galactic Starcruiser will be getting overhauled for use as an office space for Walt Disney Imagineering. So instead of welcoming guests back into those space-themed cruise rooms, Imagineers will be using them as office space to create, design, and implement new ideas for Disney theme parks.
Since January 2025, we hadn’t heard about any new updates for the Starcruiser or the new office building. Given the upcoming changes at Disney World, we might expect that Disney would want to get Imagineers into these new offices ASAP. But it wasn’t until the very end of August that we learned of a new permit filed for the Starcruiser for “General Construction.” This could pretty much be for ANY construction at the hotel, so it’s not a big clue about what’s going on there.
We have seen some aerial images from Bioreconstrct on X of the Starcruiser recently. These images show what the location looks like as of September 20th. Not much looks to have changed on the outside aside from some equipment, dumpsters, and some other subtle signs of construction. It’s probably a safe bet that more work is going on inside than outside.
However, there are markings along areas outside that are likely for underground utilities needed for the new office space.
So it appears that, yes, Disney is moving forward with the abandoned Starcruiser in some capacity. While there haven’t been too many major updates or announcements pertaining to the Starcruiser, we’re keeping our eyes peeled for any changes. In the meantime, keep following DFB for more Disney news!

I personally think they should have kept it as a regular hotel with the Stawars theme, but just not the 3 day inclusive experience like before. I believ it would been popular enough to be booked on a regualr basis.
