“The Simpsons 2” is officially in the works at Disney’s 20th Century Studios, according to Variety.

The sequel is slated to release in theaters on July 23rd, 2027, and it has taken the place of an untitled Marvel project.

Since the new Simpsons movie has taken the place of the unnamed Marvel project, there will no longer be a new installment between “Avengers: Doomsday” on Dec. 18, 2026, and “Avengers: Secret Wars” on Dec. 17, 2027.

No official plot details have been confirmed for the sequel yet, but a poster was shared on Instagram featuring one of Homer’s favorite pink doughnuts along with the phrase, “Homer’s coming back for seconds.”

“The Simpsons” was created by Matt Groening and is the longest-running animated series and sitcom on television.

The first feature film, “The Simpsons Movie,” was released in July 2007 and was hugely successful, earning $536 million at the global box office with a $75 million budget. Showrunner Matt Selman says that streaming has helped the series stay relevant, along with gaining new fans.

“Now instead of the kids watching it on local TV in the afternoon, they can just watch it all, all the time, all day, all forever,” Selman said. “Being on Disney+ has been somewhat rejuvenating for us. Not that we realized we needed rejuvenation, but we appreciate it.” We can’t wait to head back to Springfield with the Simpsons!
