Construction is well underway for the new Cars-themed area coming to Magic Kingdom, called Piston Peak National Park. Progress is also being made on what will eventually become the Villains Land in Magic Kingdom.
You can get a great view of the construction progress from the sky, and @bioreconstruct on X recently posted LOTS of photos of Magic Kingdom, so we knew we had to share them with you!
The Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Square Riverboat closed permanently on July 7th, 2025. We have seen the river drained and workers on Tom Sawyer Island. However, getting a peek from above shows us a much better picture of the progress that has been made on Piston Peak National Park.
While we can still see the buildings on Tom Sawyer Island and the docks that were used for the rafts and riverboat are still there, the river has been completely drained. There is also quite a bit of scaffolding up around the boardwalk in Frontierland.
From this angle, we can see even more of what used to be the path for the Liberty Square Riverboat. We can still spot some of the old scenes from the riverboat ride as well. Almost all of the water is also drained out from this area. There are still a few patches of water, but it is mostly dry now.
We can also see a better look at all of the construction walls up in Magic Kingdom, as well as some of the materials being staged for construction.
Bireconstruct also got some pictures of the area beyond Big Thunder Mountain where the new Villains Land will be built. Disney hasn’t released too many details about the Villains Land, but it is still exciting to see progress being made. Currently, we are mostly just seeing land being cleared and silt being removed.
The area in the towards the bottom right corner of the photo is likely where the new Villains Land will be built.
Bioreconstruct also posted some photos of what looks like staging areas near the construction areas for Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land. There is still a long way to go for both of these new areas in Magic Kingdom, but we can’t wait to see them start to take shape.
Of course, we will be right here providing you updates every step of the way. Stay tuned to DFB for all your Disney World news!

How sad Mother Nature’s blessing to our planet – DESTROYED! For what? A stupid car ride that could have been put in so many other areas.
The destruction of Walt Disney’s original Disneyland concept continues unabated in Walt Disney World. So sad.
When is the projected opening date for Cars Land?
Where is the train going? Are they adding another stop?
With all the over crowding I wish they would have expanded the park to build cars land and kept ROA. Quit the retheme and Expand
So sad. One of the worst mistakes the Disney corporation has ever made. I will be speaking to my financial adviser soon; my instructions will be to sell the stock. I can’t have anything to do with that company anymore.
Sigh. I’ll miss the walk along the River between rides. Trees and water such a mental break on a high traffic park day.
Green spaces everywhere keep disappearing.
I’ll be most excited with Piston Oeaks if they actually make it feel like nature has presence in the “mountain”…
I agree with those above

Perfectly said. And so correct!
Ah, yes. Cars in Frontierland, what a genius fit. Can’t wait to see the Main Street Rocket Ride and the Fantasyland House of Horrors.
I think you’re a little behind. All the buildings on the island are basically gone.
They need to hurry!
