Disney World is restoring a classic element of the Magic Kingdom to its former glory… and most Disney Adults are ecstatic!
At the 2025 Destination D23 event, Disney made several major announcements. From a new animated film to an overhaul of a classic attraction, there were a few bits of news out of the Orlando event. However, there was one announcement that seems to move the needle for Disney Adults who grew up in the 90s and have been visiting Disney World for over 30 years, like myself: the original Cinderella Castle color scheme is returning!
For the first five decades of its existence (give or take some time spent as a cake or covered in toilet paper… really), the Magic Kingdom’s icon had a blue and grey color scheme, accented with gold.
However, that changed in 2020 when the Castle was repainted in honor of the 70th anniversary of the release of Cinderella. The new scheme had dark blue roofs, a slight rose pink color, and will have many gold trim accents on the castle
The new color scheme was somewhat controversial, as many felt it looked too similar to Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle and didn’t fit Magic Kingdom’s aesthetic. However, it remained with seemingly no chance of change… until Destination D23.
At the event, Disney announced that the castle would be returning to a “timeless color combination: deep, handsome blues paired with radiant golds.” According to Disney, these colors were chosen to “reflect the Florida sunshine in a way that makes the castle shimmer from every angle.”
So, what was the reaction? Well, judging by our readers, immensely positive. According to a poll, 70% were in favor of the change. When we reached out for readers’ thoughts, the comments were overwhelmed with responses in favor, many of which professed their love for the color scheme. That said, there were a few responses that said they will miss the cute pink color scheme, and reader Doug, who had one request: “It’s fine, just never, and I mean n-e-v-e-r, turn it into a giant birthday cake again! That was hideous.”
Disney is reverting the Magic Kingdom’s Cinderella Castle to its classic color scheme, and the vast majority of our Disney Adult readers seem to be in favor of the change! Stay tuned to DFB for more on Disney World’s changes.

Honestly, my wife and I are both pretty disappointed with the return to neutral gray. We thought the added color made it look more like Neuschwanstein castle in Bavaria; it felt special and worldly. It’s so odd to me that people are excited about the REMOVAL of color to an attraction, but I guess pink isn’t for everyone.
I’m glad they are returning the castle to it’s original color scheme. To me it’s more….well…regal looking. You can add my yes vote to your list.
I wish I would have been there to see it as birthday even just for one year. It looked so awesome. I can understand why people wouldnt want it to be like that for too long but once would have been awesome. Maybe one time you can change it to lesser type of birthday cake so it doesnt upset some people. Lol
