Another Disney World attraction is now officially closed FOREVER!

The Boneyard
We’ve seen a lot of loss lately around Disney World, and we’re back again to update you with yet another that we knew was well on its way out. In between losing Tom Sawyer Island, Liberty Belle Riverboat, and draining the Rivers of America at Magic Kingdom to make way for new land expansions, we’ve also seen parts of DinoLand U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom already affected by its upcoming overhaul, too. Now, we’re bringing you the latest attraction to close forever in DinoLand U.S.A., and we have to admit this one made us shed a few tears, too!
Disney shocked everyone about a year ago when they announced plans for a new land within Disney’s Animal Kingdom based on the Tropical Americas. Inside the land, we’ll find the enchanted Casita from Encanto, a new Indiana Jones ride and storyline to match, and even a new playground for the younger kids to roam.

However, with this new land, it meant Disney had to find room for the upcoming project, which set its sights on a divisive land originally located in the park. DinoLand U.S.A. opened with the park in 1998; however, in the years since, it’s been in need of a little TLC. As luck would have it, Disney’s had their eye on improvements to DinoLand U.S.A. for some time, and with this new land announced, Disney also confirmed that Pueblo Esperanza’s sprawling land would occupy the space currently known as DinoLand U.S.A.

DinoLand, U.S.A.
Since the initial announcement at last year’s Destination D23 weekend and its subsequent updates on when we could expect closures of rides and attractions to begin within the land, we’ve already seen evidence of the construction taking place in real time. Now, the time has come to close another beloved attraction forever to make room for the new land’s offerings. As of today, The Boneyard playground is now officially closed indefinitely in DinoLand U.S.A.

The Boneyard
We knew this closure was coming; however, it doesn’t mean that seeing it completely closed doesn’t tug at our heartstrings. We were given years of laughter and play around its rope course and slides. We were also huge fans of its soft, cushiony ground that helps the little ones out if they were to fall while running around in the play area. But when we went to investigate how Disney would seal off this area for closure, we were met with a full-on stop to the land’s former main entrance.

Stopped in our tracks
Of course, this closure also means that the Dig Site is closed, where little ones could try their hand at being a paleontologist themselves and digging for dinosaur bones. This was more easily accessed by the side that connects to the Wilderness Explorers stop and Dino-Bite Snacks.

No access from the other side either!
We’re fond of the memories we made here and will cherish them, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t admit that we’re eager to see what will await us with the new playground that will be found within the land once it’s completely reopened. The Boneyard playground isn’t the last of the DinoLand U.S.A. closures to happen, though.

Only a pathway to DINOSAUR
You’ve still got time to enjoy Restaurantosaurus, its lounge, and the last remaining ride in the land, Dinosaur, for a few more months.
