REVIEW: There's Never Been a Better Time To Visit This EPCOT Restaurant in the Germany Pavilion

Okay, allow me to explain… For the first time this year, Sommerfest in EPCOT’s Germany Pavilion has joined in on the 2025 EPCOT Food & Wine Festival fun! Sure, you probably already know to head to Sommerfest for Bratwurst, GIGANTIC Pretzels, and beer all year long. But just for the Festival, Sommerfest is serving up something a little extra special. Let’s check it out!

Sommerfest proudly presents the new-to-the-Festival Zwiebelkuchen, a German onion cake! Of course, you’ll find the usual offerings on the menu, as well. (We highly recommend following up your savory Zwiebelkuchen with Sommerfest’s scrumptious Pretzel Bread Pudding for a little something sweet.)

Food

Even though Zwiebelkuchen translates into onion (zwiebel) cake (kuchen), upon presentation, it’s more reminiscent of a tart or pie.

Caramelized onions, bacon, herbs, and a savory custard make up the additional components. This Festival dish costs $9.79.

The Zwiebelkuchen is filled with loads of caramelized onions, small pieces of well-dispersed crispy bacon, some herbs, and a custard that is reminiscent of a quiche filling; this was a highlight and gave the dish some flavor. We enjoyed this! The portion size was large, and we almost felt onion overload by the end. If we order it again, we’re probably going to want to share.

OVERALL

So, is Zwiebelkuchen worth making a detour as you make your way around all of the Festival Marketplace Booths? If you’re a big fan of onions, you’ll love it. Beyond that, fans of quiche-style dishes would probably enjoy it as well, though they may want to share.
