Oogie Boogie has officially taken over Disneyland, and the Halloween after-hours event, Oogie Boogie Bash, has started. This separately ticketed event runs on select nights from August 17th to October 31st and allows guests extra time in Disney California Adventure to celebrate Halloween snacks, characters, and entertainment.
Now, because this is separately ticketed, you’re going to have to pay an additional cost to experience the event, which can make your Disney trip even more expensive. Is it worth it? Let’s find out!
Oogie Boogie Bash runs from 6 PM to 11 PM on select nights at Disney California Adventure. Your ticket can get you into the parks as early as 3 PM, so you can experience a little bit more Disney magic before getting into the Halloween spirit.
Tickets cost $139 to $199 per person, depending on the date of the party. For a family of four, that can cost you between $556 $796 for eight hours of park time. While you can get into the park at 3 PM, if you’re looking to enjoy the whole day in the parks, you’ll need to have separate tickets.
What else is included with your ticket?
Trick-or-Treating
When you check in to the party, you’ll get a free candy bag to help trick-or-treat around DCA! You’ll get scoops of M&M’s, Skittles, Snickers, and so many other candies throughout the night. When you grab the candy, you might even move across Disney Villains! Eek!
With those villains, there are super-rare ones that we usually only see at Halloween parties. You can go through the lines as many times as you want to get as much candy as you want!
Entertainment
The Frightfully Fun Parade is not one you’re going to want to miss. There are iconic Disney characters like the Headless Horseman, Ichabod Crane, Jack Skellington, and Mickey and Minnie, of course.
You should also check out the Villains Grove, where you’ll go through spooky trails with unique characters in fun themed areas. Some of those areas include:
- Frollo’s Sanctuary
- Maleficent’s Will
- Queen of Hearts Garden
- Scar’s Elephant Graveyard
- Dr. Facilier’s Friends on the Other Side
- The Wicked Queen’s Lightning Forest
- Home of the Wisps
- Dawn
There are also a few Halloween overlays at attractions, including:
- Mater’s Graveyard JamBOOree
- Luigi’s Honkin’ Haul-O-Ween
- Guardians of the Galaxy — Monsters After Dark
Tons of other attractions are open throughout the night, so you can grab a few rides on your favorite attractions. There’s usually low wait times, too!
Character Meet and Greets
If characters are your thing, these special events are going to be your jam. We’ve seen unique characters like Minnie, Daisy, and Clarabelle as the Sanderson Sisters, Bruno from Encanto, Sid from Toy Story, Dr. Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb, and so many more.
Syndrome from The Incredibles was new this year! We’ve never seen him in the parks before, so it’s always so neat to see new characters
Photo Opportunities
With your ticket, you get access to all of your PhotoPass photos from the night! Whether you go on rides, meet characters, or take photos with a PhotoPass Cast Member, your photos will be added to your Disney account, free to download.
Specialty Food
Here at Disney Food Blog, you know we’re going to bring up the food. While these are for an additional cost, there are tons of specialty snacks only available during the party.
Merchandsie
Did you really go to a special event if you didn’t pick up merch to match? For purchase, you can grab Oogie Boogie Bash exclusive souvenirs that you can only grab during the party.
Is It Worth It?
That depends on what you like! If you like characters and specialty items, this could be a great way to experience Disney. If you want a more traditional park experience, a day ticket might be the way to go. There are lots of factors, but most of them come down to what you enjoy doing in the parks.
Don’t forget that even though there is a limited number of people in the parks, it can still get pretty busy. We felt like the Villains Grove was packed, and we still had to wait for different treat trails and experiences around the park.
If you’re unsure if Oogie Boogie Bash is worth it to you, don’t forget that prices change depending on business, so dates towards Halloween can be more expensive. Try it out on a less expensive day and decide if Oogie Boogie is your jam.
