A big event is coming to Disney World SOON. No, we’re not talking about Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party or the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival. We’re talking about Destination D23: A Journey Around the Worlds of Disney.
Destination D23 is Disney’s largest fan event of the year, and people come from all over the world to attend. This year, it will be held at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Disney World from August 29th through 31st. The event also hosts exclusive panels where Disney fans can learn more about Disney’s upcoming plans when it comes to TV, movies, and parks. Except, well…this year…something from that list is missing. This year’s Destination D23 does not have a dedicated parks panel. Say what?
Yes, we know, there is almost ALWAYS a panel dedicated to discussing Disney parks at the D23 events like this, but when Disney dropped the full Destination D23 schedule recently, we had to read it several times to convince ourselves that, yes, the parks panel that almost always happens isn’t…well…happening this year.
Considering the amount of projects Disney has going on in parks ALL over the world, that’s weird, right? We certainly thought it was weird. We’re not going to talk about the big Cars expansion or Villains land in Magic Kingdom? We won’t learn more about the new Monsters, Inc. land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios? Or get more details about Pueblo Esperanza in Disney’s Animal Kingdom? What about the new Coco ride and Avatar land coming to Disneyland? Or the big Avengers Campus expansion? Plus all that’s happening in the international parks? Disney is literally going to give us NOTHING?
Here’s the thing, though. What if Disney is going to use other panels to make those announcements? For example, on Sunday, there’s a panel called “Disney Villains: Icons of Evil.” Disney could very well use that panel to update us on the Villains land in Magic Kingdom. Maybe the “Creating the Happiest Place on Earth” will include Disneyland updates.
There are also several “Disney Around the Globe” panels that could be used to give us updates on what’s going on with international parks. Maybe the “Disney Around the Globe: France” panel will give us an update on Disneyland Paris. But really, who knows what Disney has planned? Maybe the company just doesn’t have any real updates to share, but it does seem odd that its biggest event of the year isn’t including parks announcements, right?
We’ll be tuned into Destination D23 throughout the entire weekend, though…just in case. So stay tuned to DFB for more.
