Happy Halloween! Yes, Halloween has officially kicked off in Disney World, and we’re live at the first Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in Magic Kingdom.
Now, we LOVE this party because there’s just so much to do, but more importantly, there’s so much to EAT. Disney drops a ton of exclusive drinks and snacks at the party, and we’re on a mission to try them all. Our first stop is at Golden Oak Outpost, where we’re enjoying three party-exclusive menu items. Let’s BOO this!
Now, the snacks at Golden Oak Outpost have really been channeling Louisiana-inspired fare recently, and these Mickey’s Not-So-Scary exclusive menu items are kicking that up a notch.
So let’s start with the Cajun Crawfish and Sausage BOOtine, which features Waffle fries topped with Cajun-inspired crawfish, andouille sausage gravy, and cheese curds for $13.49. We have to ask the most important question, though…would Mama Odie approve?
This special Halloween Party offering doesn’t exactly scream Halloween from its appearance, but it is LOADED UP in a really hefty portion size that left us impressed. The waffle fries offer a solid amount of surface area, and we feel that makes them the perfect choice for this dish. They were nicely seasoned and absolutely loaded up.
There’s a lot of crawfish with this snack, and if you don’t like the texture and taste of crawfish, you’ll be especially turned off since you get so much of it. With that said, the gravy had a nice heat and a shockingly good andouille flavor, and the big cheese curds really tie this shareable snack together. Overall, we really enjoyed it and think this would be an ideal dish to share!
Next up are the Beignets from Beyond, summoned up by Haunted Mansion’s Madame Leota herself. These are beignets with powdered sugar and chocolate cookie crumbs served with cookies and cream cheese dipping sauce for $8.79. These are a lot like the Ghoulish Beignets we LOVED at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter (except these aren’t shaped like Mickey). So how do they compare?
Unfortunately, these didn’t do it for us. This treat looks fun and Halloween-y, but ours weren’t very fluffy and came off more like shells of dough.
The texture was just too unsatisfying, and the dip kind of tasted cheap and store-bought. We’re not the biggest fans of regular Magic Kingdom beignets, but those are cheaper at least. Maybe stick with the Ghoulish Beignets at Port Orleans – French Quarter…
Finally, we washed these snacks down with Hot Honey Lemonade, which is Minute Maid Premium Lemonade with hot honey and a chili-lime rim for $6.29. Yep, Disney is still running with the whole hot honey trend, even with its drinks. So does it work as a lemonade?
Surprisingly, this was our favorite special offering at Golden Oak Outpost! Putting Tajin on the edge of a lemonade remains legendary, and it went so well with the drink! The hot honey sank to the bottom pretty quickly, but they give you a straw with it so that you can still get that hot honey flavor. The honey itself wasn’t very hot, but you still get a distinct flavor that separates it from regular honey. Refreshing with a fun spicy kick, we’d definitely get this again!
