We love Orlando, but we don’t always love driving around the city. If you’ve driven to Disney World recently, you might know about the insane amount of construction when trying to get to the Most Magical Place on Earth. Luckily, some of this is changing!
Starting Saturday, July 19th, three new ramps connecting the highway to the Daryl Carter Parkway will be opening.
Orlando Sentinel has reported that on Saturday, “drivers can use one eastbound or one westbound I-4 off-ramp to Daryl Carter Parkway at new Exit 70, as well as an eastbound I-4 on-ramp from Daryl Carter Parkway.”
The Florida Department of Transportation states that these new ramps will help alleviate traffic congestion in the area near Disney Springs and other parts of Disney World.
In 2024, Orlando welcomed 75 million visitors, a record that is expected to be surpassed in 2025 with the opening of Epic Universe, Universal Orlando’s new third park.
In March, the Florida Department of Transportation opened the “diverging diamond” Daryl Carter Parkway overpass, which was recently reconstructed. This helped prepare for the ramps to open. Currently, the diverging diamond moves traffic to the left side of the road at one light and then to the right for the second signal,” eliminating left turns across oncoming traffic.” This allows for twice the number of vehicles to move through at the same time and cuts crash risks in half.
The new ramps are part of the Florida Department of Transportation’s I-4 Beyond the Ultimate project, which started in 2022 to overhaul I-4 and improve it for increased traffic. There are two other projects still in the works for Beyond the Ultimate, which are set to be completed by 2028.
We’re going to be keeping an eye on more road updates in Orlando, especially if it’s going to affect your travels to Disney World, so make sure you keep following Disney Food Blog for more.
