It feels like Disney World is in the middle of a huge transformation, with projects popping up left and right. From brand-new attractions being built to favorite areas being torn down and massive renovations appearing around the parks.
For new projects to start, old projects have to go away, and that can mean a lot of construction. If there are tons of areas actively under construction, why does this mean ticket prices constantly go up every year?
We keep track of ticket prices from year to year, and these prices keep getting higher and higher. With so much currently closed, is this really right?
Right now, Frontierland looks like an active construction zone (well, because it is). Tom Sawyer Island, Rivers of America, and the Liberty Square Riverboat closed down in June, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has been undergoing renovations since the beginning of the year.
Even the train station in Frontierland is closed down, and instead of the Walt Disney World Railroad going around a full circle of Magic Kingdom, it stops in Fantasyland, where it goes backwards to the Main Street station.
The only attractions open in Frontierland are the Country Bear Musical Jamboree and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. That’s not a lot for a huge area of Magic Kingdom! With fewer rides, the lines can also be longer at the open attractions.
Villains Land and Piston Peak, the Cars-themed land, will be behind Big Thunder Mountain and replacing the old Tom Sawyer Island. While we’re thrilled with these huge expansions coming, what about the years it will take til they’re open?
Piston Peak is set to open sometime before Villains Land, but it’s likely still a few years away.
Even Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin is closing on August 4th, 2025, and won’t open until 2026. It’s getting a complete renovation with new targets, shooters, and more, but that’s another Magic Kingdom attraction down for the count!
Over in EPCOT, Test Track has been closed since summer 2024 and is just now reopening on July 22nd, 2025. That’s over a year of a popular thrill ride not being open.
Spaceship Earth is temporarily closing in August and is set to open later in 2025, but without an exact reopening date. Will it be one month? Will it be five? We’re not sure!
Don’t get us started about Animal Kingdom! All of DinoLand, U.S.A. is going through phased closures while it’s transformed into Pueblo Esperanza, the Tropical Americas area.
What are we supposed to do without riding DINOSAUR? As the transformation approaches, prices for Animal Kingdom, typically the least expensive park, are not decreasing.
In Hollywood Studios, the Muppet Courtyard closed down to make way for Monstropolis, and the friends from Monsters, Inc. are moving in.
Even Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is getting a retheme to include the Muppets. Although we’re excited that the Muppets aren’t leaving Hollywood Studios, we know the roller coaster is going to close sometime in 2026.
That is a whole lot of closures only at Disney World! Again, new projects are coming, but what about all of the time in the meantime? Do you think Disney should lower ticket prices when attractions are shut down, even though the promise of new lands is coming? Disney should lower prices when so many rides are shut down. Do they think because they set up some dancing in the street or other little side shows, that makes up for a thrill ride? Not for me!
