Disney World’s original park is getting some NEW attractions, and we’ve got the details!
Magic Kingdom is set to have some major overhauls and some new additions in the coming months and years. There are new rides and entertainment options on the horizon, and we’re breaking down the full list of offerings — here’s everything we know!
Cars Rally Race Ride
Starting out this list, we’ve got the two rides coming to the new Cars-themed section of Magic Kingdom. Tom Sawyer Island, the Liberty Square Riverboat, and the Rivers of America are closing to make way for a Frontierland expansion dedicated to the hit Pixar films. And one of the rides that’s coming to the Cars-themed Piston Peak is a rally race-style attraction.
For this attraction, you’ll race through the mountains on wild terrain along mountain trails as you dodge geysers and splash through mud holes. The queue for this ride will be housed in the visitor lodge area of Piston Peak National Park, and the Imagineering team is using a customized production vehicle with sensors all over to gather data on how it feels to drive on varying terrain.
Disney has already shared concept art of some of the ride vehicles. Each car will have its own personality along with its own name and number. How fun!
Imagineer Michael Hundgen explained, “Our primary goal is creating an emotional experience for our guests. For this Cars attraction, we need to invent a new type of ride vehicle. No one builds these in a factory because it has to do so much more than just carrying you from one place to another. We have to create a car that conveys a feeling when you ride in it.”
In preparation for this ride, Disney Imagineers even created their own outdoor track to better understand off-roading. Now that’s dedication!
Cars Family-Friendly Ride
But there’s another ride in this new area! Disney shared that the second ride will be geared toward “smaller racers” and will be fun for the whole family. The queue for this ride will be housed in the park ranger lodge.
In the queue, you’ll meet a brand-new character created for the ride — Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore. He’s a nod to Ranger J. Audubon Woodlore, the park ranger from Disney’s Humphrey the Bear and Donald Duck cartoons.
We’ll get an Autobahn animatronic in the pre-show, where you’ll learn more about Piston Peak’s history. But so far, Disney hasn’t shared too many details about the ride itself. We’ll be interested to get additional information in the future.
Villains Land Attractions
Speaking of things that Disney hasn’t shared much information about, we have the two NEW attractions coming to Villains Land in Magic Kingdom. This new land will be located in the area beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and will feature a variety of Disney Villains, as well as two “major attractions.”
When you zoom into the concept art for the land, it looks like there are roller coaster tracks in the bottom middle of the photo. So far, that’s the only hint we’ve gotten. We’re hoping to hear more about the Villains Land offerings from Disney in the near future.
Disney Starlight
But you know what’s guaranteed to come in the near future? Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away! This new nighttime parade premieres at Magic Kingdom on July 20th, 2025, and will show at 9PM and 11PM.
As it begins, Disney Starlight will be “brought to life by the magic of the Blue Fairy” from the Disney animated classic, Pinocchio. She will lead the parade, which will also include Disney characters from Walt Disney Animation Studios films such as Encanto, Frozen, and Peter Pan.
Disney has so far shared concept art of several floats, including ones with Disney Princesses, as well as those inspired by Moana and Wish. The finale float is a nod to the Main Street Electrical Parade.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a new parade without a fantastic score! The soundtrack includes some snippets of popular Disney songs.
And since the parade takes place at night, you know those costumes are going to SHINE. There are lights all throughout the floats and the costumes, including those worn by Mickey and friends.
We can’t wait to check this one out in person soon!
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
One ride that’s getting some major changes in Magic Kingdom is Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. The ride will temporarily close starting on August 4th, 2025, to get a new scene, tech updates, and new ride vehicles.
The new ride vehicles will come with video monitors to better keep track of your scoring, as well as handheld blasters that can be removed from their holsters (think like the Disneyland version of the ride!). As you shoot at the targets, they’ll light up and react, so you know when you’ve hit one.
There will also be a new scene on the ride featuring a friendly robot named “Buddy.” He’ll teach you how to play the game and allow you some practice shots before you take off on your intergalactic journey. Thankfully, the blasters will also now have always-on lasers that come in two different colors for the riders in each vehicle.
The ride is set to reopen in 2026 with these updates.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Currently, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closed for a year-long refurbishment. During this time, the ride is getting a number of updates, including a smoother track and “a little bit of new magic.”
But perhaps the biggest change to this ride will be the area around it — Disney is already starting to prep for Villains Land to go behind the classic roller coaster, so it’s no wonder the refurbishment is so long! We’ll be interested to see how the landscape changes.
Walt Disney World Railroad
Finally, we’ve got to share the changes coming to the Walt Disney World Railroad. Since there’s quite a bit of construction planned for the Frontierland area, the railroad will be operating in “shuttle mode” starting on July 7th, 2025.
During this time, the train will run from the Main Street, U.S.A. station to the Fantasyland station and back. There will be no stopping at the Frontierland train station. Also, Disney is turning some of the benches around on the train, which means you can choose to sit forward OR backward, no matter which direction you’re going.
That’s a wrap on the list of attractions changing or opening in Magic Kingdom! We’ll keep you updated if there are any more announcements.
