We know there has been a lot of Universal Studios news lately, especially with the opening of Epic Universe, the new third park in Orlando, which has been happening recently.
With all the news, you might have forgotten that Universal is opening a theme park in the United Kingdom in 2031. They’ve just taken a huge step forward in creating this new park, and we’re getting pretty excited.
Universal Destinations & Experiences submitted a request to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government for planning permission through a Special Development Order. Once this request is received, we will start to see bigger movement and plans for the park begin to develop.
In this request, we got a sneak peek at some features in the theme park. This will be a “world-class theme park with several themed lands, visitor accommodation, as well as a range of retail, dining, and entertainment uses.” This might sound like every theme park we’ve seen, but it will also be one of the largest employers in the region, and they continuously call it “the entertainment resort complex.”
Approximately 80% of the employees are expected to come from Bedford, Central Bedfordshire, Luton, and Milton Keynes, with an estimated 28,000 jobs created. They believe it will make a £50 billion economic benefit for Bedfrod and the UK economy.
Universal has been conducting surveys and speaking with “the Bedford Borough Council, neighbouring authorities, national government, transport and environmental bodies, and local communities.” In an April 2024 survey 92% showed support for the project.
What’s happening next? Well, plans need to be approved! There will be an Environmental statement, along with additional documents, plans, and drawings. We can’t wait for more drawings so we can get a better idea of what Universal is working on!
We are thrilled about this project, as well as the upcoming opening of Universal Kids Resort in Texas and all the other projects Universal is currently working on.
