REVIEW: This Might Be the Most Refreshing Disney Dessert We've Ever Had

Something new has popped up around Disney World and it’s already made quite an impression on us!

Disney World has sent us through an entire rollercoaster of emotions lately between some of our favorite snacks being taken away overnight from menus, and the addition of brand new options we’ve tried that pushed the envelope of our thinking. But if you were in search of the perfect snack on a hot summer day that really makes your mouth water in the best way, you’ll need to head over to where the wild things are to find it!

While taking a stroll through Disney’s Animal Kingdom for a day of rides, character meet and greets, and let’s face it — Disney World food — we happened upon a new offering we weren’t familiar with.

As we started to make our way through Discovery Island visiting all of the animals and taking in the sights and sounds, we wandered over to the resident snack carts in search of a sweet treat. As we glanced over our options, something new caught our attention — and we knew we had to have it RIGHT AWAY!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom snack carts now offer Frollies Watermelon Fruity Ice Pops for $6 each. These little popsicle snacks come individually wrapped, and as the name implies, they have a fun watermelon slice shape. While the pop itself is mostly one piece, there are a few milk chocolate dots that serve as “seeds” for the watermelon, which we found to be a fun touch.

While they might not look like much at first, these fruity pops pack lots of flavor into a small pop! The main slice of the watermelon is very on the nose for a candy watermelon flavor. The real surprise came in the form of when you bite into the chocolate “seeds” and they snap in your mouth (unless they’ve had time to melt in the sun before you get to them). The ending green rind to the watermelon pop’s flavor struck us with a bit of pucker power, though, because it tasted like a sour green apple popsicle, which was a nice break from being one solid note of an ice pop.

Surprisingly, these little things hold up well against the sun’s heat, and only after we had our popsicle out in the sun for a while did it start to drip and eventually melt on us. While we wish this was bigger, the price isn’t so bad to pay for what you get, and we could see this being a great alternative for kids to lick as opposed to a super melty DOLE Whip or ice cream treat.

While they might be new now, there’s no telling how long they’ll be sticking around and if they could be offered in Disney World’s other parks soon. For the meantime, though, if you’re wanting to grab one of these and try it for yourself, it’s best to plan to do that when you’re visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom soon.
