So Disney has teased us with an announcement about the new Disney Villains Land in Magic Kingdom, but since then, it’s been basically crickets.

The new Villains Land coming to Magic Kingdom will feature fan-favorite Disney Villains from popular Walt Disney Animation Studios films and two new attractions.
We’ve done a lot of guessing from the concept art to figure out what this new land might include, but as we all know, things change a lot from concept art to reality. We know that this new land will go behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and that it’s part of one of the biggest expansions in Magic Kingdom history. But what else do we know? Well, not a lot. So, when will we know more? Let’s take a look at when Disney might finally make some more Villains Land announcements.
Destination D23
The D23 events are usually where Disney makes the big parks announcements because there is usually a big panel that’s dedicated to nothing BUT parks news and announcements. Villains Land was first announced at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event in 2024, so we can expect that we’ll get some big announcements about the new land at this year’s Destination D23 event, which takes place at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Disney World.
Destination D23: A Journey Around the Worlds of Disney starts on August 29th and runs through August 31st. Although Disney has not yet released a schedule for the event, you can count on there being a Parks Panel being on there. So if you’re looking to learn more about the Villains Land, this is probably going to be your best bet.
Construction Milestones
Something Disney often does, especially with these big projects, is to offer little updates when they reach construction milestones. This includes groundbreaking ceremonies, such as the one Disney announced for the new Pueblo Esperanza land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This could also include the progress of rides in the land, as well as the completion of buildings, etc.
Now, we can’t tell you WHEN these milestones will be met, but we’ll let you know as soon as Disney announces them, so if you’re tracking news about Villains Land, we’ll keep you updated.
When Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Construction Is Done
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is in the middle of a MASSIVE refurbishment (we’re talking right down to replacing the ride’s tracks), and construction is expected to last at least until 2026. So once that construction is complete and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopens, we may finally get an update (and maybe even a look from the ride) on what’s happening BEHIND the ride (which is where Villains Land will be located).
Of course, we don’t yet know when that will be, but Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is expected to be down throughout all of 2025.
Next Earnings Call
Every quarter, The Walt Disney Company releases its quarterly earnings report and has an earnings call where they occasionally talk about upcoming projects, including projects in the parks.
Now, the third financial quarter doesn’t end until the end of September, so we might expect a small update about Villains Land at that time.
What We DO Know
Okay, so what do we know about Magic Kingdom’s Villains Land? Well, it’s not a lot. We know that the land will be dedicated to Disney Villains. We know that it will be built behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. It will have two rides, as well as some new dining and shopping experiences that will be presented “on an incredibly twisted grand scale.”
Disney has also provided a glimpse at some of the characters to be represented in the new land, including the Queen of Hearts, Jafar, the Evil Queen, Yzma, Cruella, Captain Hook, Maleficent, Gaston, Mother Gothel, Ursula, Hades, Chernabog, and Maleficent as a Dragon.
The story is that the villains have been summoned to converge in one place. Chairman of Disney Experiences Josh D’Amaro said, “In our story, a mysterious spell has been cast, summoning villains from every realm. In this land, heroes don’t come to save the day — and there may not be a happily ever after!”
All we can say is that Disney fans are chomping at the bit to get more information about this land. A villains-themed area in the parks has been our dream FOREVER, so now we just need to know more. So, Disney, PLEASE, THROW US A BONE HERE.
