There are two types of Disney hotel stays: the ones you dream about for years and the ones you realize (a little too late) were… not it.
With all that in mind, we wanted to find out from you the telltale signs that you’re at the wrong Disney World hotel, and boy oh boy, you delivered.
We reached out to our followers on X to ask: “Looking back… what were the signs you definitely chose the wrong Disney hotel?” We had quite a few people leave their opinions in the comments!
Now, let’s dive into some of your top responses!
“If you can’t see Epcot or MK…”
First, we’ve got @MattWi77iams who shared:
“If you can’t see Epcot or MK from the property.”
This one’s for the view-lovers. And honestly, we get it. There’s something about waking up and seeing Spaceship Earth or Cinderella Castle that just sets the tone for the day. If you’re staring at a parking lot or the back of another building instead… yeah, that’s a rough start to the magic. For many readers, the “wrong” hotel isn’t necessarily bad—it’s just not close enough to the action. That window view? It matters more than you think.
“The fire alarm going off at 6am…”
Next, we’ve got @TheCoffeeGreg, who shared:
“The fire alarm going off at 6am and evacuating from a dead sleep. Then not being allowed back in the room for hours. Then not having any water in the room for the rest of the day. (grand floridian)”
Oof. There’s nothing like a surprise pre-dawn evacuation to set the tone for a chaotic Disney day. And while Grand Floridian is supposed to be luxury central, even the fanciest spots can have rough mornings. This kind of disruption— especially without communication or resolution — can quickly turn a dream hotel into a “never again” story.
“Seeing all the crowds pour in…”
Next, we’ve got @orlandosox, who shared:
“Seeing all the crowds pour in on a monorail resort.”
This one hits hard for anyone who booked a monorail resort expecting calm, quick park access… only to find themselves in the middle of a full-blown people parade. The perks of staying on the monorail are real — when it works for you. But some readers warned that it can also mean getting caught in the crush of rope drop chaos, especially when non-resort guests show up early.
“All the construction…”
Next up, we’ve got @PorteraBrian who shared:
“All the construction at the beach club past week. The resort stated that construction wouldn’t begin until after 8 am. We are usually in the parks by then. It definitely did, and Tues night after midnight the forklifts beeping every time they backed up for hours.”
Yikes. Late-night forklifts and early morning hammering? Sounds like the Beach Club became more of a construction site than a vacation escape. This is a big one — resort construction isn’t always avoidable, but it’s a serious mood-killer when it happens outside the hours you were told it would. If you’re a light sleeper or value peace and quiet, it’s worth checking (and double-checking) those construction notices before you book.
“…Damp room. Mildew smell…”
Next, @hawaiimaile shared:
“Beach Club. Carpeted room + Stormalong Bay. Damp room. Mildew smell. Gag.” — @hawaiimaile
The Beach Club takes another hit — this time for the vibes. And by vibes, we mean wet carpet and mildew. Stormalong Bay is an amazing pool area, no doubt, but apparently, all that water doesn’t mix well with old carpet and humid rooms. If a clean, fresh-smelling room is your non-negotiable (which, let’s be honest, it should be), this might be a dealbreaker.
“That one time we stayed…during cheers season.”
Next up, @pastamutt shared:
“That one time we stayed at All Stars during cheers season.” — @pastamutt
Unless you’re a cheer coach or a parent of a cheerleader, the cheer season at the All-Star Resorts is something to avoid at all costs. Crowded food courts, packed buses, and screaming routines at 7am don’t exactly scream “relaxing Disney vacation.” Multiple readers pointed out how event season—cheer comps, dance teams, school trips—can completely change the feel of a value resort. Know before you go.
“…Dining hall miles from our room…”
Lastly, we’ve got @jerseyish, who shared:
“CARRIBEAN resort years ago. Construction. Room run down. Dining hall miles from our room. Buses to MK, Epcot, etc took forever.”
This one sounds like the Disney hotel trifecta of regret: construction, outdated rooms, and inconvenient everything. When your resort is so sprawling that it takes half an hour just to find breakfast, that’s a sign. Add in slow buses and long lines, and suddenly you’re spending more time in transit than in the parks. That’s not the vacation vibe most of us are going for.

Also, interior hallways as opposed to exterior. Makes a big difference in hurricane season.
I knew I was at the wrong resort when I had to park who knows where (I’m pretty sure it was technically a different resort) because All Star Music was stuffed full of marching bands. We prioritize the parking situation of our resort now (among other things) to hopefully avoid experiences like that.
