Universal has been doing some serious expanding and coming up with new theme parks and experiences all over the world.
Recently, a new Universal horror experience opened in Las Vegas. PLUS Universal is bringing a new park to the U.K. A new park, Universal Kids Resort, is under construction in Frisco, Texas. Well, we recently took a drive to Frisco to check out the latest construction progress of this new theme park, and things are moving right along.
Universal Kids Resort is a first-of-its-kind theme park designed specifically for families with young kids. It will have lands themed around Shrek, Puss in Boots, Trolls, Gabby’s Dollhouse, SpongeBob SquarePants, Minions, and Jurassic World. The resort will also have a 300-room hotel with a dedicated entrance into the theme park. The last time we checked up on construction progress at the resort, we noticed that work was well underway for the hotel. Here’s what it looked like then.
Well, now, the work on that hotel is progressing.
However, during this visit, we also noticed OTHER work being done on the site. More structures have been erected, including part of a roller coaster track.
Now, we know that Universal previously filed for a trademark for a coaster called Jurassic World: Cretaceous Coaster. Now, we’re not sure this is it, but it very well could be. Here’s a closer look at that ride.
We also saw a long building being constructed nearby. We’re not sure what this will end up being, but you can guarantee we’ll keep an eye on it to figure it out.
Universal has revealed that attractions at the park will include a playground themed around Shrek’s Swamp, an area dedicated to SpongeBob SquarePants with “nautical, nonsensical delights,” a kitty adoption drive with sideshow games and rides themed to Puss in Boots, and a sensory garden. Universal Kids Resort will also have a hub with interactive play areas for kids and resting spaces for their parents, as well as a “unique immersive retail experience” featuring Gabby from Gabby’s Dollhouse. The new resort is expected to open in 2026.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for more construction progress at the site of Universal Kids Resort, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
