Even more CLOSURES are going to hit Disney World in July. Shocking, I know!

Cinderella Castle
If you’re planning a trip to Disney World this summer, you should be aware of what’s going on around the parks in July. Construction and refurbishments continue to be on the way at Disney World, and July is going to be no different. Take a look at everything that will be closed in July of 2025!
In June, we said goodbye to the beloved Muppet*Vision 3D, as it closed its doors permanently to make way for the new Monsters, Inc. Land. But that’s just the beginning of what’s going on in the parks right now. You can expect to see refurbishments and even a permanent closure of a classic attraction in Disney World in July.

Astro Orbiter
The majority of the work being done at Disney World will be at the Magic Kingdom. We’ll start at Tomorrowland, where we’ll look at the ride that sits above the “highway in the sky”. The spinning Astro Orbiter attraction has been closed for a while and will continue to be closed for refurbishment. Disney is simply just cleaning up the ride, but there is currently no timetable for its opening. It is expected to reopen at some point in the summer!

Big Thunder Mountain
Let’s make our way over to Frontierland, where everyone’s favorite wildest ride in the wilderness is still undergoing a huge refurbishment. Big Thunder Mountain closed in January earlier this year and is not expected to open until sometime in 2026. Yeah, that’s a long time to wait for this fan-favorite attraction.

Construction at Big Thunder Mountain
We’re expecting to see a lot more construction on top of Big Thunder’s refurbishment to get ready for the highly anticipated Villain’s Land! Don’t worry, Big Thunder isn’t going anywhere — it’s just undergoing a refurbishment. The refurb is going to be bringing in a brand-new track for the roller coaster, and we can’t wait! The timing of this closure could be linked to the beginning of Villains Land construction (although that isn’t known).

Tom Sawyer Island
We know some of you don’t want to hear this, but the time is near to say goodbye to Tom Sawyer Island. What’s coming to the classic attraction isn’t a refurbishment, it’s a permanent closure. The island where you can run around and explore caves, camps, and nature will be gone for good. The island will officially close on July 7th, making its last day to visit July 6th!

Tom Sawyer Island
While it may be hard to say goodbye to a beloved attraction, something new and exciting is on the horizon. Replacing the island will be Magic Kingdom’s version of Cars Land — a land themed after the popular Pixar movie Cars. The land was officially announced to be called Piston Peak — and it’s looking great! The land will feature water elements, almost paying homage to the area that it will take over.

Liberty Square Boat
The Liberty Square Boat and the Rivers of America will also be permanently closed to make way for the brand-new Piston Peak. They will close on the same day, July 7th, making their last day of operation July 6th. With all these permanent closures happening at Magic Kingdom, we can assume that the construction on Piston Peak will begin very soon!

Test Track
That’s all the closure Disney has planned for July in the Magic Kingdom. Now let’s make our way over to EPCOT, and discuss the popular attraction fans have been waiting for the reopening of. Test Track closed last year in June, and will remain closed for its retheming throughout the beginning of July.

New Test Track sign!
However, the month will also be the opening of the brand-new Test Track! This is the ride’s third re-theme in its history, and this one promises to be a good one. The ride is scheduled to reopen on July 22nd! If you’re an Annual Passholder, keep an eye out. The previews for Passholders should be starting very soon, and you aren’t going to want to miss being one of the first to experience this ride!

Test Track
It’s a bittersweet month for Disney goers — we get to welcome in the brand-new Test Track (that we are seriously so excited for), but will have to say our final goodbye to other attractions.
