If you’re a fan of ballet, drama, and Paris, you’ve probably watched season one of Étoile. Well, we hate to break the news to you, but the Amazon Prime original series is getting cancelled. Let’s take a look at what happened!
The creators, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, released the show for its debut in late April. Despite fairly positive reviews from critics, here we are six weeks later with the news that it’s over. All eight episodes were dropped simultaneously on Prime Video, which follows a trend of dropping a series on one day to be binge-watched. We’ve seen other streaming services like Disney+ and Netflix follow this pattern.

The show starred Luke Kirby and Charlotte Gainsbourg, who played ballet company directors and followed their story as they team up to save each other’s institutions. The show was ordered to series in 2023, coming around one month before the series finale of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel — another show created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino for Prime Video.

The original series was actually greenlit by Jennifer Salke, who used to be the head of administration at Amazon MGM Studios. She had that title for seven years before choosing to step down in March 2025. This fell one month before Étoile premiered on the streaming site.

There was a commitment towards a season two coming out; however, both creators seemed tentative about the outlook of the new season. This happened during an interview with Variety back in April 2025. So even though the streamer greenlit the production with a two-season commitment, it fell through.

It just sucks when shows get cancelled, you sit there with this ending dangling over your head that you know will never come. Fans of the show are disappointed, as they were looking forward to seeing what comes next. We’re not 100% sure why the show got cancelled, but maybe that information will come out soon enough. I am sad the next season will not be. I loved the show. it was a beautiful escape. beautiful dancing. It was very calming to me to watch. The story line was good, the actors good, again I am sorry there will be no more. its a shame.
