When it comes to planning a Disney World trip, you need to consider a few things.

Rainy day in Disney World
You need a good packing list, an idea of your goals, and to be prepared for any type of weather. Orlando is known for its heat, but if this is your first trip or your 100th, you might not be prepared for hurricane season. Well, if you’re headed to Disney World soon, you need to pack your rain gear and get ready for some potentially strong weather. Let’s dive into everything we know here.
We hate to say it, but hurricane season is here. In Florida, hurricane season runs from June 1st until November 30th each year, meaning you need to pack that rain gear just in case for roughly 5 months out of the year. (Honestly, you should always have it just in case.)

Bring your rain gear to the parks!
We might have gotten through the first two days of the season without incident, but now the National Hurricane Center has issued a notice on a potential approaching storm. Over on X, the center shared details about a non-tropical area of pressure that could potentially develop into subtropical or tropical characteristics.
8 am EDT Tue Jun 3: A non-tropical area of low pressure is forecast to form along a frontal boundary in a couple days off the SE U.S. coast. The low could gradually acquire subtropical or tropical characteristics later this week if it remains offshore.

So what does all of that mean? It essentially means that there are signs of a major storm forming along the Southeast portion of the United States. If it continues to grow over the next few days, it could turn into signs of a subtropical or tropical storm. A tropical storm, specifically, can develop into a hurricane if it continues to grow.

If you’re headed to Disney World this week, that might seem nerve-wracking, but don’t stress too much. First, this storm could potentially die off while it’s still over the Atlantic, never forming into an actual hurricane. (Only time will tell.) Second, Disney is no stranger to hurricane weather.

Disney has a detailed hurricane policy that will be your best friend during impending storms. It applies if you book directly through Disney and deals with cancellation policies, vacation packages, and rescheduling as needed. We have weathered several hurricanes while at Disney World, and they have several plans in place to keep everyone safe, fed, and warm should the hurricane be severe enough for the parks or resorts to close.

If you want to avoid rainy weather, you might want to take a look at the calendar!
Luckily for us, the current weather forecast just means heavy rain for now and (hopefully) nothing more than that. The National Hurricane Center lists the chances of formation as low over the next week. Just pack your rain gear, and prepare for some wet feet over the next few days as the storm moves. For real-time updates, you can check hurricanes.gov for the most accurate information.
