A new area inspired by the Pixar Animation Studios movie Cars is coming to Frontierland in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom!
This NEW part of Frontierland will be called Piston Peak and will include new theming, two new rides, additional food and beverage options, and a whole lot more. Disney has shared some info here and there about this new area, but now we’ve got details about the queues of BOTH rides!
Disney Imagineers recently shared a bit about what we can expect from the NEW Piston Peak area of Frontierland that will be fully Cars-themed. While we got some exciting details about the land itself, Imagineers also shared more details about the queues for both of the new rides coming to this area!
Piston Peak is based on Rocky Mountain National Park, which includes red rocks, mountains, rivers, and tons of diverse landscapes. But it’s also based on Disney animated parks, and even existing park buildings like Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Grizzly Peak in Disney California Adventure!
There will be an exciting and thrilling rally race ride that will have you racing through the mountains on wild terrain along mountain trails as you dodge geysers and splash through mud holes. Imagineers revealed that this queue will be housed in the visitor lodge area of Piston Peak National Park, which will be constructed to look like an A-frame mountain lodge.
This makes total sense, because as you move through the queue of this ride, you’ll be introduced to a new character — Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore. This is a nod to Ranger J. Audubon Woodlore, the park ranger from Disney’s Humphrey the Bear and Donald Duck cartoons.
This attraction will feature an animatronic of Ranger J. Autobahn Woodlore in a pre-show, where he’ll tell you about the history of Piston Peak and its folklore — which Disney says we’ll learn more about at a later date.
The second ride coming to Piston Peak will be a family fun attraction, and the queue for that ride will be held in the park ranger lodge.
The buildings in Piston Peak will have “car-ified” elements like lower windows so that cars can see out of them, entrances and building additions that are big enough for cars, and architecture that shows the cars are using found materials — like old wagon wheels — in their buildings.
Disney also shared that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will be subtly updated to fit into the Piston Peak area — you’ll see rainbow geyser pools scattered around the base of the mountain, and possibly even some tire tread tracks in the dirt!
Oh, and did we mention that this area will have a LOT of water elements and shade?! Both are things that have been sorely missing in some of the other lands opened recently. Imagineers said they lost count of the number of waterfalls being added to this new area.
We can’t WAIT to learn more about the new Cars area coming to Magic Kingdom. Piston Peak will certainly add something new to this iconic park! We’ll be on the lookout for more updates on this new area, so make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more.
