There are dozens of restaurants to choose from for your visit to Disneyland Resort, but unfortunately, you probably don’t have time to visit them all!
Recently, a popular dining spot at Disneyland Hotel added a new breakfast menu, so of course, we had to stop by and check it out. Come along with us to Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar to try the new offerings!
Atmosphere
Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar is a super fun themed bar and restaurant at the Disneyland Hotel! During the daytime, it’s welcome to guests of all ages, but after 8PM, it’s reserved for 21 and up.
If you’ve been to Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto in Disney World, the vibes are very similar. Think “quirky tiki bar” with fun visual gags and lots of special effects when different items are ordered from the menu. It’s quite the atmosphere!
Advance reservations are recommended if you’re stopping by, but you can sometimes find a spot on the walk-up waitlist if it’s not too busy.
There is some outdoor seating available as well, but you lose a good bit of the atmosphere dining here. However, this would be nice for people who want the food and drinks, but don’t want the overwhelming effects and dark lighting.
These would definitely be nice tables to enjoy on a comfortable weather day. You get a great view of Disneyland Hotel from this terrace.
So what’s on the menu? Let’s see!
Menu
We mainly came here to try out the new breakfast menu that’s also available next door at Tangaroa Terrace. The menu is a little more unique, offering options like Tropical Pancakes, Ube-Stuffed French Toast, a smoked salmon sandwich, the Loco Loco Burrito, and more.
But Trader Sam’s is definitely most well-known for its inventive beverages! Many of the options here are fairly tropical, and there are plenty of souvenir cups to be found on the menu.
Several of the cocktails, when ordered, cause the various special effects around the restaurant.
If you’re a fan of Disney lore, then you’ll notice that this restaurant and its menu features some ties to the S.E.A. (the Society of Explorers and Adventurers), Disney’s “secret society” that has roots in many popular attractions around the world.
And of course, they also have the basics — beer, wine, and bottled alcohol.
Let’s order and try out some offerings!
Eats
For our breakfast entree, we ordered the Ube-Stuffed French Toast for $19. This is made with Japanese milk bread, coconut custard, Ube Diplomat cream, and topped with fresh tropical fruit.
First of all, this dish was absolutely stunning with the multicolored fruit and the presentation overall. The portion was pretty nice, and we left feeling pretty full. The ube cream is smooth and has a custard-like consistency, while the French toast was soft and slightly chewy. The fruit really brightened everything up, but if you prefer things on the sweeter side, you can try it with the provided syrup.
This is a really fun and unique option that we’d totally try again, and we definitely recommend it if you’re a fan of ube as a flavor profile.
Drinks
Of course, when in Trader Sam’s…you’ve got to get a drink! We tried the secret menu Dole Whip Cocktail this go around. It’s made with pineapple Dole Whip, coconut rum, and pineapple juice to create the fruity cocktail of your dreams.
It’s incredibly fruity and has a strong rum flavor, so if you’re in the mood for something tropical to start your day, this is a great selection. You can snag this beverage for $14 — just tell the bartender you want the off-menu Dole Whip Cocktail.
Nosh or Not
This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…
- You’re looking for a yummy breakfast during your stay at the hotel. If you’re staying at Disneyland Hotel, this is a great new option for your morning.
- You want to try some unique breakfast fare. This menu is a little more exciting than your basic breakfast fare, with more tropical-inspired options available.
- You want to check out Trader Sam’s during the day. If you’re heading over here with your kiddos to enjoy the atmosphere, breakfast is a great time to stop by.
You should skip this Disney World spot if…
- You’ve got a busy park day. If you’re busy in the parks, it would definitely take a chunk out of your morning to come over here and get served breakfast. Save it for a resort day!
- You’re in a hurry in the morning. If you’re in a rush, you can get many of these items next door at Tangaroa Terrace, so you don’t have to sit down and do the Enchanted Tiki Bar full experience.
Overall
All in all, we really enjoyed this meal and thought it was a fun way to start the day in Disneyland! If you’re intrigued by any of the other items on the menu, we suggest you stop by and try them out during your next visit.
In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for more restaurant updates from Disney World and beyond. Make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for the latest Disney news and more!
