Well, the end of an era is happening in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The first of the Muppets Courtyard closure is underway, starting with Mama Melrose’s, followed by Muppet*Vision 3D and PizzeRizzo. By June 8th, the entire area will be permanently closed to make way for a new Monsters, INC. land. Well, Disney recently filed a permit for a store in the area that will soon be demolished. So, yep, it’s really happening, folks.
Disney has filed a permit with Orange County, Florida for the “demo, infrastructure prep, and utility modification” for 361 Cypress Drive in Lake Buena Vista, Fl. Yep, demo, as in DEMOLITION. That means something is getting destroyed to make way for something new.
But where exactly is this demolition happening? If you look for that address at Disney World, you’ll see that this is the location associated with the Stage 1 Company Store.
Yep, that’s the store on Grand Avenue known for its Muppets merchandise. It looks like that building may be officially going away as part of the Monsters Inc. construction project.
Now that the permit has been filed, it’s only a matter of time before that building goes buh-bye. We’re guessing that will happen once all of Muppets Courtyard closes in June. Disney seems to be moving pretty fast on this project, but we still don’t have an opening timeline for the new Monsters, INC. land, which will bring a new attraction to Hollywood Studios: Disney’s first suspended roller coaster.
Don’t worry, Muppets fans — Disney will be re-theming Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster to give it a Muppets upgrade!
We’ll be keeping an eye out for more changes in Hollywood Studios as it makes way for the new land, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

I will miss Muppets 3D just like I miss IT’S TOUGH TO BE A BUG. I really enjoyed the 3D shows…my children enjoyed them, my grandchildren enjiyed them…what a shame to see them go away…
