Ahoy there, pirates! A new pirates-themed lounge, The Beak and Barrel, is opening in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom in late summer this year, and we just got a HUGE update!
Disney wants you to truly feel like a pirate when you enter the space, and to do so, they’re making sure you get the full experience.
The Beak and Barrel will serve alcohol!
Why is this a big deal, you may ask? Previously, in Magic Kingdom, you could only get alcohol by dining in a sit-down restaurant and not at quick-service locations or food carts. Disney is classifying The Beak and Barrel as table service, even though they’ve been calling it a lounge or tavern.
Other parks have alcohol at more than just sit-down restaurants, which is why you’ll see guests around EPCOT holding onto their drinks and taking them from area to area, and why Drinking Around the World is such a popular activity. None of the quick service or carts in Magic Kingdom serve alcohol, but leave it to the sit-down restaurants.
This lounge is still family-friendly, and they say “the menu features tasty options for pirates of all ages — as well as refreshing cocktails for Guests ages 21 and up.” We haven’t seen the menu yet, but we’re excited to see the cocktails!
Guests must be over 21 years old to purchase alcohol, and there is a maximum of 2 drinks per guest. This close-up of the concept art suggests that souvenir cups will be available!
Disney also dropped that there is a 45-minute time limit for your time inside the pirate bar. You’ll want to make an advance reservation before heading to the lounge, but remember that you won’t be there for very long.
The drink limits and 45-minute reservations reminds us a lot of Oga’s Cantina at Hollywood Studios, and while they have been more lenient on the time limit since opening, they are still turning over tables quickly to get the next folks in.
We’ll be ready when the menu drops for The Beak and Barrel but in the meantime, make sure you’re following Disney Food Blog for more Disney news.

Not happy at all😠 Walt just turned over in his grave.
Gosh, you all keep saying Walt is spinning in his grave. I’m not a big drinker, but what’s wrong with serving alcohol? Kids see their parents drink. You are responsible for your children’s behavior. Besides, how many drinks can you have in 45 minutes, especially if the service is slow. Everything Disney does is not negative.
There’s something icky about making a bar appealing to children with a cute parrot and pirate themes.
I agree, Joe! Maybe showing my age, but what ever happened to the law stating minors were not allowed where alcohol was served? Too much drinking allowed in theme parks. You would think that with the rides, it could be a safety hazard (And nobody is monitoring how many drinks are being consumed – just take the $$$ and look the other way.)
disney has changed for the worst
I agree with Joe. I’ve never understood people who can’t enjoy themselves without consuming alcohol, especially at a theme park.
Most everyone said it for me! Walt NEVER allowed liquor in the parks! Can’t people go a day without drinking??? Alcohol is also the worst thing to drink in heat and humidity. Whoever said kids watch their elders drink should think twice about being a role model….and too many parents do not control their kids or raise them with responsibility. Alcohol is simply not healthy for anyone and I thought minors were not allowed in bars!! I’m lately seeing too many drunks in the parks…who thinks that is acceptable??? Drunk behavior can also cause problems….most are not happy drunks….Disney has spent the last few years trying to cater to the wrong crowds while ignoring those of us (baby boomers) who turned Walt’s Disney into a fantastic, magical place to escape and enjoy. Sadly, too many rude, entitled people now ruin the day for the rest of us raised with manners, etiquette and a sense of civility and The Golden Rule. The Beak and Barrel could AND SHOULD be a fun place for all ages who like POTC and want to feel like a pirate for a short time. They should be serving only non-alcoholic drinks!!!
I’d like to see interesting mocktails offered, too!
Denise, what law?? Should children be banned from every single restaurant that serves alcohol?? Limiting parents with kids to only eat at fast food establishments? Never heard of such a law. Walt came from a time when people were drinking alcohol all day long, during work, in the streets. He also smoked cigarettes. I think his whole idea was a place where parents and kids can have fun together, Beak and Barrel seems like it’ll fit that bill.
Hi Bob! The law I was referring to stated that you had to be 21 or older to be in an establishment that served alcohol. Minors were prohibited. Did not apply to restaurants, just specifically bars and lounges/clubs. This was a state law, not a Disney law. I was not referring to restaurants; that would just be silly and families would never get to go anywhere. I agree with you, Beak and Barrel sounds like fun!
