It’s a very special day for fans of Disney’s Star Wars. It’s May the 4th, aka Star Wars Day, and that means we’re celebrating in the best way possible: by visiting Disney World.
We’re headed STRAIGHT to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to indulge in some special food and drinks that are ONLY available today for the big celebration of all things Star Wars. So come with us as we try some of these fun new treats.
We started our May the 4th snack adventure with the Sliced Eopie Wrap at Docking Bay 7 for $15.99. It’s made with Roasted Pork Loin, Capicola Ham, Spiced Broccoli Rabe, Provolone, and Red Pepper Emulsauce wrapped in Pita served with Yuca Fries topped with Aïoli Sauce. We have to admit we didn’t LOVE this wrap as much as we wanted to. We liked parts of this sandwich like the broccoli and the meat. It’s sort of like an Italian sandwich, but the red pepper emulsauce was just a bit too much. It stays in your mouth, even if you drink a ton of water.
The Yuca fries, though, are delicious. They are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. If we could order these as a side again (and again, and again!), we would. The sauce on the fries has a bit of a kick, but it’s Disney spicy (which isn’t spicy at all). Our only complaint is that we wish we had gotten more fries because they’re the standout of this dish.
You can also grab the Mythrol Orb at Docking Bay 7 for $6.49. This is a crystal blue raspberry orb served with tart pineapple-passion fruit sauce and crunchy streusel. Okay, so this blue thing is basically like Jell-O, except that it tastes like blue Powerade, although it’s supposed to be blue raspberry. The crumble looks like graham crackers, but it’s got a cinnamon-y crumb thing going on. Anyway, if you get a bite of everything together, it’s really tasty.
Most of the flavor comes from the pineapple-passion fruit sauce. The dessert itself isn’t overtly sweet. Warning, though: these textures might be off-putting for some people. You’ve got the stiff Jell-O thing with the crumble, and some people won’t like that. We also tasted a hint of salt in the crumble, which balances out the other flavors.
Next up, we headed to Backlot Express for the Battle of Hoth Macaroon for $6.49. It’s a Toasted Coconut Macaroon on a Cookie decorated with Buttercream, Shredded Coconut, and White Chocolate. This macaroon has a lot of coconut, which means you get that coconuty texture with each bite, which COULD turn off some folks.
The inside part tastes like a brownie, and we’re not complaining. The cookie on the bottom is also chocolatey and has the texture of a super-thin cake. However, it is hard to get everything in one bite, and that makes it a little difficult to eat, especially as the coconut at the bottom is kind of cold.
The The Milk Stand has the Kessel Run Rations for $5.99. These are flaky pretzel croissants sprinkled with smoked sea salt and served with caramel-chocolate sauce. But should you make the run in 12 parsecs flat to grab them? Um…Han Solo would say YES. Now, we saw them pull these out of the fridge, so we were worried, but we had no reason to be. These are like buttery croissants, and yes, they’re cold, but we didn’t mind. The sea salt on the top is nice, and it pairs SO well with the caramel-chocolate sauce, which tasted more like Hershey syrup to us. It’s still nice and chocolatey, though.
It’s odd that Disney figured out a tasty way to combine pretzel flavors with a croissant, but they nailed it here. Considering the price, too, you’re getting a pretty good value. This is a snack we’ll consider getting again and again.
We’ve enjoyed spending some time in a galaxy far, far away with all its May the 4th treats, so if you’re in Disney World today, be sure to check them all out. May the 4th Be With You!
