You know the saying, “Rules are meant to be broken”? Yeah…that may be true but you really SHOULDN’T be breaking THESE Disney World rules.
We talk all the time about unspoken rules and rules that are ok to be broken once in a while, but Disney World has some “written-in-stone” rules that are big no-nos to break — and not following them can lead to some serious consequences. Still, former Cast Members on the DFB team have seen it all, including guests consistently breaking several rules.
Before we get into it, we have to remind you that these ARE NOT SUGGESTIONS. In fact, we’d like to deter anyone from breaking these rules, as doing so can be dangerous, harm the theme park-going experience, and/or create unpleasant results for guests around you.
With that warning down, let’s get into the rules Cast Members constantly see guests break.
No Running
One of the most common rules guests break at Disney World is “no running”. Whether it’s kids playing around or grown adults running to make a reservation or take advantage of a low wait time, chances are you’ve seen guests running, as well.
Disney doesn’t allow running for safety reasons. As one of the most visited places on Earth, Disney World is often crowded and the potential for collisions is already high. If you’re running, it’s easy to get blindsided, trip, or run into someone or something. This rule is in effect to keep you and other guests safe, so please be sure to follow it.
If you are speed like Lightning McQueen and want to run at Disney World, there are designated jogging and running trails at the hotels or you could sign up for a runDisney event.
No Flash Photography
The next rule that’s constantly broken is “No Flash Photography”.
Flash photography not generally allowed in Disneyland, especially in indoor settings like shows or dark rides. Disney implements this rule to not ruin the experience for other guests while maintaining the safety of any performers. The flash can also damage some light-sensitive materials in exhibits, such as artifacts. Additionally, photography of any kind may be prohibited due to copyright, meaning if you capture content and post it, you could be in some legal trouble.
There’s a time and a place for pictures, and if flash photography is banned, it’s just another excuse to live in the moment.
Don’t Feed the Animals
Look, we know the ducks, other birds, and animals at Disney World are super cute and you want to show them love by giving them something to snack on, but feeding wild animals is actually prohibited.
No, Disney doesn’t ban feeding the animals to be cruel to the animals. Instead, Disney’s looking out for their health and safety, as human food isn’t ideal for a wild animal’s diet and can end up seriously hurting them. On the flip side, If these animals get too reliant on humans feeding them, they could become too comfortable and too aggressive with guests. Disney World is doing its best to balance a natural ecosystem while creating a healthy guest experience.
It’s also worth mentioning that you shouldn’t grab or touch wild animals. While this may seem obvious, small children don’t know better and it’s up to adults to enforce animal-child safety should that ever be a concern.
When you visit Disney World, do so with the understanding that you’re expected to follow ALL of Disney World’s rules. When it comes to safety and comfort, Disney is always trying to do right by its guests, so remember that these rules exist for a reason.
