Harry Potter is probably one of the most loved and well-known properties in the world — and we’re getting more of it!

Fans can’t get enough Harry Potter! We have many books, eight movies, attractions in Universal Orlando and Islands of Adventure, and a new Wizarding World featuring the Ministry of Magic at Universal’s new Epic Universe. Now, fans will be treated to a brand-new Harry Potter show — and we have information on who the cast will include!
HBO is currently developing a new Harry Potter series. Fans are excited, but it’s also no secret that some are skeptical about what’s going to happen with this new show. HBO is creating a spin-off series to one of the greatest properties of all time, with some of the most die-hard fans…so we understand their anxiety! Let’s take a look at the six actors confirmed for the series so far, and you can determine if you think they’re on the right track.

Starting with the Headmaster himself, Albus Dumbledore, will be played by John Lithgow. He is most known for his role in The Crown, in which he plays Sir Winston Churchill. He also played Cardinal Joseph Tremblay in last year’s Oscar Best Picture nominee Conclave. This casting has been previously confirmed. So, who else is involved?

Janet McTeer will be taking on the Head of Gryffindor as Professor McGonagall! She has performed in roles such as Mary Jo Walker in Tumbleweeds, and Alisa Jones in Disney+’s Jessica Jones.

The talented Paapa Essiedu will be playing the Head of Slytherin, Professor Snape! He’s been in projects such as Gangs of London and The Lazarus Project. He’ll be looking to continue his acting career with his biggest role yet!

Nick Frost will be playing the beloved Rubeus Hagrid! Nick Frost has been involved in projects such as Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and he will be playing Gueulfor in this year’s upcoming How to Train Your Dragon live-action movie.

Joining the cast will also be Luke Thallon, who will be bringing the role of Quirinus Quirrell back. As well as Paul Whitehouse, who will appear in the recurring role of Argus Filch.

“We are happy to announce the casting of John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, Nick Frost, Luke Thallon and Paul Whitehouse to play Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Hagrid, Quirrell and Filch,” said Francesca Gardiner, is the showrunner and executive producer, and Mark Mylod, director of multiple episodes and executive producer — according to Variety. They also stated they’re “delighted to have such extraordinary talent onboard, and we can’t wait to see them bring these beloved characters to new life.”.

These are the first confirmed actors for the HBO show, and we should be hearing about more soon, with the show expected to begin filming in the summer. We’re still waiting on the announcement for the stars, Harry, Ron, and Hermione — which have had over 30,000 submissions for its open casting call. HBO has described the show as a “faithful adaptation” of the book series. Where they will be “exploring every corner of the wizarding world, each season will bring ‘Harry Potter’ and its incredible adventures to new and existing audiences.”

Let’s get one thing out of the way: no one will be able to replace Daniel Radcliffe’s Harry, Emma Watson’s Hermione, or Rupert Grints Ron, along with all the other beloved actors and actresses of the movie series.
